    Default yes and no

It depends what your goals are.

If it is just going to be a basic bolt on car with a stock turbo then I would say yes.

with a small bolt on turbo 16g 18g etc, then maybe.

with a big turbo 20g, GT30R, then no.

If you can move up into the 2003 you might be a lil better off. The manual trannies sometimes have issues with thier 2nd gear syncros going out. They seemed to of improved that as time went on. All depends on how you or the driver before you drove it. Some have no issues, so have some. But it seems like you definately here less about the 5 speed trannies in the later model cars.
My dyno numbers are bigger than your dyno numbers

    Default hmm

Some of the later 2003 cars also got shim under bucket heads, you might want to try and find a 2003 late build date car.

If you're going to get a Wrx, I would go with a 2004 or 05. The 03's and under had alot of tranny issues. Alot of them would break 2nd gear alot for some reason or another. Yeah but Subaru's do last a long time if you keep them up.

The general concensus among most tuners is that as long as you limit the high-rev boost (something like be below 16psi by 6000 revs) you'll have a safe happy reliable motor.

The motors will take a lot of boost in the midrange but the rings and seals cannot take the stress added with the higher revs also.

Like Matt said, if you're going with a small bolton turbo you'll be fine but with anything really above 300whp you are going to drastically cut the life out of your engine.

yea well i ended up buying an 02. It has no problems really the only thing is that first grinds occasionally if i downshift into it but your technically not supposed to anwayz. The mods are underdrive pulley and alternator pulley. Gutted uppipe, and sti hood scoop. I got a good deal on it and as far as mods go im only doing basic bolt onsa nd wheels basically.

I have also had this same question. I have driven about 5 different ones, 2 of which have had the grinding 1st gears. Is this a recall for Subaru, or are you stuck with it?

It's just how Subaru 5speeds are and have been for the last decade. People have remedied it to a degree using strange mixes of gear oil but it will still exist.
