10w30 is what they recommend, I do it all the time with no problems. Less than 3 quarts. Whatever you do, don't put in gear oil!

I put 10W30 in my LS transmission, i got from the junkyard. cause i didn't care what went in it..But I use the MTF for my good trannys. Basically, my good trannys deserve MTF. and my bad ones have the 10W30. and about 3 quarts. with the car level. undo the oil fill bolt, and leave the drain bolt in. and fill it, until the fluid starts to come out of the oil fill bolt. that's how it was specified in my honda manual.

When I did my motor swap I put 10w30 synthetic. I figured if regular 10W30 is good then synthetic should coat the gears even more.

Reasoning??? Considering I change it as much as motor oil, I ALWAYS use lucas gear oil in the trans. Not one problem. I had grinds before I put lucas in it. I still have them, but not NEAR as bad
