yeah, lol, there's a short. luckily it's popping the fuse and not the computer. unless the computer's already screwed and that in turn is popping the fuse.
see what's going on on the left part of the engine bay where you said you saw smoke coming from, your problem lies therein. repair the wires that got fried, then test again with a new fuse. if fuse pops again or your repair gets smoked. you gotta trace down the short in that EFI circuit.
basically look up what things are on that circuit, and you're going to be looking for the wire that's supposed to be ground but has 12v on it. since it doesn't pop right when you replace the fuse but when you turn the key on, then you have even more help to tracing it down.
looking at that circuit see what all things get powered by the key in the ON position. then go through the path that the current travels (in diagrams they usually have arrows) and test each stopping point until you find the faulty component/f***ed up wire. g/l =]
