Is it worht it to get Super HICAS

Okay so i have chance to finally get my 240(now not l8tr). But the Problem is that it is a 91 Hatch sl se Super Hicas for 2400..

I have heard some na-say on the SH, but i wanna be completely sure i wont get a crap car. Are they drift able.......


Should i hope on this or wait till another one on ebay ends and i can just buy it(hopefully)

i dont like super hicas, you cant find a 240 without it ???. the super hicas can be eliminated for about a 150 bucks.

eh i think im just gonna go for it. Talk the guy down to 2200 and told my dad it was for 3k.......so ill use the extra cash and get the Tomei eliminator.....as well as some other goodies....

for 2200 you can find an s13 w/o hicas easily.

Its a really weak system on those older cars, basically the suspension just flexes to add rear steering; personally I'd rather have everything locked down tight on the suspension. Its really easy to ditch so go ahead and get the car if thats the breaking point on the purchase.

I know some Subies have a passive rear steering design, but this isn't the case with Super HICAS. There is a separate steering rack, which uses vehicle speed and steering input (via the abs and the sensor on the steering wheel, respectively) to ACTIVELY steer the rear wheels a few degrees. Hence the "A" in HICAS (HIgh Capacity Active Steering).

I happen to own a HICAS car. And I've driven a lot of non-HICAS S13s. The bottom line is, if you want to drift, you might as well find a non-HICAS car. The HICAS gear is pretty heavy, and even though you can buy a one-piece "eliminator," there is still a lot of crap you'd need to remove to be completely HICAS-free. Otherwise you're just carrying around a bunch of dead weight.

That being said....HICAS cars all have ABS and a VLSD. The latter two are definitely worth it IMO. Even before I swapped in my SR, I could break the rear end loose all day long, thanks to the VLSD. ABS may not be ideal for a track car, but if you intend to daily drive this car, it's definitely something you should have.

So that being said, offer the dude $1500

I personally like the hicas I have driven a S-13 with it and the cornering is great works well in the 300Zx which has hicas and I also like it in the R32. Now for Drift ing now way it sucks cause you car want to straighten its self out but on a road course it is bad ass THE SE with HICAS were all Auto though you can find a Maunal Non hicas for less and get a Diff the US LSD was Very weak compaired to the ones you can get for 300 USd from Japan

Yes i love it in the R32 I have owned 6 of them 2 GTR's and 4 GTST's As well all my customers who bought the cars and they all say they will not trade it out eather.

^^ 2nd. it's overrated. my car drives fine with it i suppose and you don't really notice it at all in normal driving but trying to get sideways sucks.

I own a manual SE with HICAS/ABS/VLSD. Two of my friends own them, too. So I dunno where you got that they were all autos.

Also, my US VLSD has 185,000mi on it and it's still holding up great.

Yea, I was gonna say the only reason to buy a car with hicas is if you ABS and an LSD stock.

If you plan on upgrading to a better rear diff don't waste time with hicas. It is heavy and pretty worthless for the most part.

BTW, I drove my car to Deal's Gap a week ago, and flogged the hell out of it in the mountains. The car handled flawlessly. It was never sketchy or unpredictable. 318 corners in 11 miles, did 3 complete laps (66mi and 1908 corners total). I've fallen in love with my car all over again. My point is, if you don't care about drifting, you'll dig Super HICAS.
