I think you'd be wasting your time and money.
what makes you say that?Originally Posted by HalfBaked

You think it is cheap to do??
You think its easy to do?
nah i know its not cheap or easy but daz not my concern... money isnt the issue... my concern is performance.Originally Posted by HalfBaked

Not worth it. RB26 power train is not small by any means, you would basically have to put the ENTIRE front Subframe out of a GTR/GTS4 under the front of your Z. You know how many people say money is not an issue but when you say they need a 400$ axle they bitch and complain.
No Homo.
Definitely better things to spend your money on
You would be better off trying to retrofit the drivetrain from a G35x.
Still a waste tho.

better off geting a 911 turbo
if money is not an issue, why don't you just buy an r34?
Omg I remember reading about thr 450z rumor, a v8 z.
It's not stupid. As long it make syou happy when you turn the key fuck what every1 else says. Do what you want - just do your homework. Personally I am tired of seeing the same old shit. The odds are against you, but if that's just the kinda thing that makes you tick then 1) have a backup car 2) have SHIT TONS of patience 3) have the best fab guys on the planet (link up w/ mini-truck guys) and 4) go for it
Good luck - you will need it.

i dont know what your recruiter told you, but after basic you arent going to have enough money to take a shit let alone cut up a z33.

You have a great engine in that 350 to work on. Imo theres no need to swap it out
im guessing your getting 20gs after AIT you dont get shit until your worth something to the military

I say go for it. Make it a fun project car. Who cares if it takes a long time and cost a lot, if you have those resources more power to you. Whats fun in getting a car and having everything done to it you want in less then a year.

Buy a skyline with the money. By the time you bastardise the Z to the point that it will all work it won't handle all that well without a good bit more work. Many people think the AWD system and the RB motors are easy to retrofit into things but thats only because they have no working knowledge of the systems involved. I agree with some others that you should retrofit the G35x system and turbo your motor. More power, easier to find parts for, still lighter than the RB based setup, better performance. I've done enough with skylines and they're systems to know that even when your done there are many cars that will out run and out handle you with less money invested.

I hope you have AT LEAST 20k+. I'm not downing it, I just don't think you are going to waste that much money. I also do not think you understand the complexity of what you are getting yourself into.Originally Posted by LSR

VQ35 appx. 400 pounds
RB26 appx. 720 Pounds
Obviously you would more than likely have to get the R34 Configuration because an R34 GTR's wheel base is similar and the AWD configuration is quite complex, it cannot be modified that much do to the front differential is made into the oil pan just as all GTR's have a differential in the oil pan. With the GTR being twin turbo, the turbo's are on the same side as your steering column. The Transmission is 2 times with width of the stock VQ tranny because it has a bulge of a transfer case on its side. Thats just some of the facts before you get in over your head. Keep in mind that an R34 Drive train WILL cost you at LEAST 10k+. You could go with an R32 drive train but that will definitely need to be modified because the crankshaft snout issue. There are ways to do what you want. I listed the long expensive ways. A cheap way would be to get a GTS4 or Steaga drive train...they come with smaller motors RB20/Neo RB25 but you could sale that engine and get the RB26 and use the GTS4 drive train, the tranny is the same as a GTR but its cheaper because it doesn't come with the RB26 attached...weird I know but thats how they work. Like I said, I'm not downing your plans, just putting some insight on whats to come.

Bro, take it from someone else that's been in the military for 3 1/2 years already.Originally Posted by LSR
You will deploy a lot unless you hold a desk job in the USAF. Hell, I'm Air Force and I've been gone 8 out the last 10 months. My 240SX is on jackstands in my garage with one engine still in the UK, and another stuck in customs right now. The reason I mention these facts is because it shows that the military will make you put personal things on hold if it's in the military's best interest.
My point is this:
You're going in the military, so the following facts will apply:
a) You won't get paid shit.
b) You won't be around much to work on the car unless you're in a USAF desk job.
c) Living in the barracks/dorms and having a project car is about as easy as defusing a bomb with a pitbull chewing off your nutsack.
d) You come to grips with the reality that you are a soldier first, and you are never TRULY off duty. You can get recalled back at any time, any day, any place and get punished for failing to do so. This makes it hard to get out to race, or dedicate an entire day to working on the car.
I know you want to build an awesome, badass car. I wanted my S13 to be a full fledged track car, and I still do. But I learned a hard lesson that a project car takes time for a younger, single military person, and I've caught a lot of flak from a lot of different people in the process. (I'm sure Ryan Reynolds will agree)
I just don't want you getting your hopes up, only to have them dashed to pieces when reality hits you the day you've taken a sawz-all to your car and caused damage you can't fix, and you're left with a worthless chassis and no money to pay anyone to repair it.

And for those asking about the video of the 450ZX TT.
If y'all can wait a couple weeks for me to get back from this current TDY I'm on (see a trend, here?), I'll post it up on here.

I hope you dont think that just mechanically fabricating whatever, and have AWD will work. The AWD is not mechanical 50/50 split as you may think. A GTR is RWD until the attesa system senses slipping then shoots power to the front wheels. This is x 4, meaning if it senses the back right tire spinning it sends the extra power until it stops spinning to the other three with in milliseconds. I dont know if you have seen attesa system wiring but it has its own ecu and the harness is twice as big as the engine harness. Then when all said and done you have to have sensors for the attesa system which are like ABS sensors on all 4 corners. Not to mention matching the gear ratios between the two diffs. Anyways, get a turbo kit or something, stop dreaming. Dont waste your time, I dont know why I did, typing this.
People have done the AWD RB26 swaps into the older Z cars but again they required massive amounts of fabrication.
