    Default BELT SQUEEKING

I have a 1996 maxima and the belt squeeks every time I crank the car on, and it gets pretty lound when all the sudden it stops. It was doing it with an old one and I just replaced it with a new one, and it still does the same thing.. I bought one of those bottles that supposedly stops the noise when you spray it, but it didn't work!..is there anything that can stop it? or does anyone have this problem? I would appreciate any suggestios because it's getting annoying.

It's loose. Does it do it more when the AC is on or the steering wheel is turned?

    Do NOT wax the belt.

yeah don't put any crap on the belt, the reason it's squeaking is because it's either loose, there's something leaking on the belt, or one of your accessories is binding up internally causing the pulley for it to not spin freely. suggest taking off your belt(s) one last time and making sure everything's spinning freely and there's no roughness or scratching sounds when you spin them, also check all your tensioner/adjusting hardware and make sure you're not missing any of the screws that help hold things in place.

thankz I need to try that stuff... No the only time that it squeeks is when I turn the car on and it squeeks for like 15 secongs, after that I never hear it again Only when i turn the car on for the first time in the day. It's weird, but I guess I am going to try what Z U L8R said. Thanks guyz

It's not weird, the belt contracts as it gets warmer. It expands when the car cools down and sits overnight, this is why new and used belts have different tension ratings when installing them.

Do not spray anything on a serpentine belt. Sprays are designated only for v belts, read the label. I don't know how many times I've our Mexican friends or redneck idiots trying to fix shit in the worst way and do this (usually with WD - 40). Then their car sits in my parking lot and I have to have it towed because the belt gets thrown off all the pulleys. Then they come in a week later and complain to me about how they are poor and cant afford the bill. Then I say "Well Sir (or Ma'am) if you had listened to me when I explicitly told you not to spray that on your belt, none of this would have occurred. Then they say "What does "explicitly" mean?".................

You could just simply change the belt. The belts squeaking for a reason. If loose just tighten it. If its missing teeth, or lines, or whatever. Just replace it.
