    Default Audi reliability..

Im car searching again, and i cant really find any a6's in my price range. Ive been lookin at a few a4's, and i like them. but than i looked up there reviews from consumers, and all the complaints from previous owners.. Are they really that bad?

I know people that have them and love them but some people do have issues with electircal problems. Then if you plan on modding it be ready to see CELs

Other than that though its not too bad if your looking at a 1.8T A4 everyone know the 1.8T is great motor as well as the new 2.0T FSI. Lots of mods available and classy. Id drive one.

They are not cheap... at all. My mom had a 98 A6 2.8 Quattro and my sister has a B5 A4 2.8. Neither of them have been cheap. Their is pretty much always something wrong. And usually it is really expensive to fix.

I think your best bet would be an 01'ish A4 1.8T.

^^ the 2.8 awd are expensive once out of warranty. i cannot speak about the other engine but normal maintenance parts are expensive.

My dad had an A6 2.7T Q, I think it was an 02? Drove it for 3 years and put 65k on it. The only problem was the turbo lag on that car was massive. No mechanical issues, ran great.

I wish I knew more about old A4's and their quirks, but I'm make sure the timing belt is new, I'm pretty sure that's service is near 100k, and you don't want to find out what an interfearance engine does without one :->

It's hard to tell not in person, but that car looks great! It is pretty loaded options wise. That price looks great based off kbb's #'s too (exelent cond. private party price basically). It never hurts to try and negotiate a little tho :->

    Run a carfax...
take the VIN to an Audi dealership and they will tell you what dealer it came from, if local, go by that dealer and ask for a report on the car if the other dealer cant do it. If it was serviced by them, then they will have all maintenance records for that car (if performed at that dealership).
My personal experince with 4ring is 50/50. I had a really good one and a really shitty one.... Audis are like VW when it comes to reliability and cost (Audis are for VW people who have gotten better paying jobs! And can afford to fix more expensive breaks....lol).

I loved my dad's 2.7T A6, but I was driving the family 97 Taurus at the time, so anything drove 100 times better :->

The A6's interior is probably why I bought my A4 :->

Just be forewarned that there was a chunk of turbo lag. You'd be at a light, trying to make a left, get on the gas and creep into the intersection, and just as you were almost done with the turn.. WHAM the power decided to show up.

My dad hated the lag, but I drove his car any chance I got, and loved it.

His solution to the lag was to move up to a car with a nice big V8 :->

As far as reliability goes, the only thing that went wrong on dad's A4 in 65k miles was someone hit his front bumper and broke the head light washer.

And yeah, run a carfax on something before you buy it.

i always do the carfax, thing. So u all are saying that the a6's are better quality? The reviews on them seem a little better.

I had a friend whose dad loved Audis, he had a 1996 Audi A6 and never had any problems with it. He was fairly well to do, and decided to upgrade to an Audi A6 2.7T. He had soo many problems with that car. It was in the shop every other week and a lot of the problems it had were never fixed.

I originally thought that the A6 2.8Q my mom had was only a major problem because it was the first year of production. This confirmed that hers was not the only one.

After less than a year of ownership my friends dad traded it in for a honda acoord.

That seems extremely odd. Twin turbo cars generally have small enough turbos so that turbo lag is not a problem. And producing only 250hp I cant imagine the turbsos being large. Especially since it's a V6.

But your best bet for buying an audi is VWvortex. Seatch under the classifieds. You can find anything, low mileage, tastefully modified, or heavily modified.

i didnt know the 2.8s were bad. i just bought a vr6(2.8) with 62,000. are there any common mechanical issues with these motors? if so are they problems with the actual motor or the accessories? i've heard about wiring issues.

I think it's an Audi thing not a 2.8 thing.

I am not a VR6 guy, but I have not heard too many complaints about the motor when we have the 1.8T vs. VR6 arguments on IA.

JITB- I suggest getting a VWvortex account and going under the fortitude(audi section) and posting your questions. I am sure you will get plenty of feedback.

haha, it happens. They aren't for everyone.

I must note that I have spent $500 in maintenance in three years on my VW GTI.

my mom has a 2003 audi a6 3.0 quattro... never had anything wrong.. whenever i can i drive it like i stole it.. but i think the 3.0 is more reliable than the 2.7T... because the 2.7t's sell for less. idk
