LS/Vtec build gone bad

Damn I always hate to see this kind of shit. Reminds me of a situation with a kid I knew who was impatient and wanted to cheap out. He wanted a GSR swap, I told him to go to Mainstream as they would provide a quality motorset and quality install. He decided to find a "good deal" on ebay. He had the motor swapped in and it lasted about 150 miles before it slung a rod through the side of the block. Live and learn. That's all I can say. Good luck on getting your vehicle back in running order. Even if it means spending a little extra money, do it right THE FIRST TIME!!!! It always saves you money in the end.

An IA member inquired me do a headgasket job on his LS/vtec that has been leaking since day 1 he bought the engine. So i towed his car down to my place and work on it. To my surprise, I've ran into so many unexpected surprises with the way it was put together. I've asked the owner of the car who built this motor, and sadly, its an IA member that did this build. I will not call out any names, as it is not a nice thing to do. lol. Folks, if you want things done right, take it to a professional shop or someone that knows what they are doing. You will save alot of money in the end. Block is trash, the head might be ok.The pictures will explain what i ran into as i only wanted to take the head out, straight edge it and the block and change the head gasket.


the block is trashed. all threads for the head bolts are stripped to hell.





The head. Why are the dowel pins splitted in half? beats the hell out of me. thats not even the right dowel pins for it! also, the oil hole wasnt tapped. it was welded and shaved off with something i dont even know. no wonder its leaking.





Guess what head bolts was used on this build? LS head bolts. this doesnt make any sense. the bolts stripped all the threads in the block. the lug nuts used on the 2 long LS head bolts made me laugh all night as i was disassembling everything. lol. I guess the copper spray was used so it can help it seal, as the builder knew it will leak? lol. I guess that the exhaust leak on the header was caused by reusing an old ass gasket? lol







Again folks, take your hard earn money to a professional shop or someone you trust. I only do this on the side, as i have a full time job at a company. The owner of the car decided that he will go ahead and buy a gsr long block. Please dont let this kind of stuff happen to you!

i'll vouch for Oz's craftsmanship all day, anyone feel like railing me for that? so how bout the people that never had a motor built by Oz put a cork in it--until you're talking from personal experience, your input is garbage. dude built up my h22, did the rings, valve seals, studs, crank seals, hone and polished, etc. all that good stuff, motor runs like a champ. accordin to Random Guy, having an assortment of mechanics touching your shit doesn't sound like a round idea, if you're not knowledgeable enough to mess with your own motor, who knows what people gonna do to it if you put it in there hands, or should i say lots of hands.

This is not the first motor I've seen from him. He sold vinhsbodys a gsr long block that he said was good. I did a leak down test on it and 1 of the cylinder was not good. Vinhbodys had only gave him $800 down payment, and owed him another $500 for a total of $1300. Vinhbodys then calls him and told him that the leak down test was not good, and wanted a refund. OZ said go ahead and keep it for $800. Now, if the motor was good, he could of gotten $1300 for it, but instead he let it go for $800.

Yes, I built him a motor. I did not build that motor. That is my block however, I can still see the paint that I put on it. i didn't build that motor, it was a used motor from a running car....
He said it was bad, I thought it was good, I was going to give him a refund after he showed it was bad. He said he wanted to keep it as it is for $800 or he wants a refund. I already spent the money so I just took a loss at 800. You can ask him to verify that.
More than likely the valves were probably just leaking due to carbon buildup around the valve seat.
but anyhow that was out of my hand and I took care of that.
