is it popular to perform sti swaps on older WRx's or non turbo imprezas? just curious, cause I am a fan of the flats

kinda, the some of the japanese ones were but when it started out it was just impreza. wrx label came later and by the time it came over the water to the U.S. we were already late.
dam been gone so lone there is actually stuff to talk about in this section wow!
check the swaps forum on www.rs25.com do ur research on there and youll find out everything you need to know![]()
i never undsterstood why we didnt get the wrx's and sti's till 2002...
Subaru was content with its little niche market of station wagons that appealed to Lesbians and tree-huggers. They launched the WRX here in low numbers in 02 with a drastically different ad campaign and it took off, its success paved the way for the USDM STi. I dont think Crocodile Dundee would help SOA sell WRXs.Originally Posted by ScoobyRacer
The older GC/GM chassis weighs a couple hundred pounds less than the GD bodies but is also I believe 50% less rigid of a chassis (i think thats a low estimate also, i've heard up to 80% stiffer on the newer ones). A local guy ran mid 11s with an older coupe with just an STI motor swap, the weight difference is quite a big change.

11's?! what version?
I believe its a 2000 Impreza with a Forester XT motor (essentially the same as an STI motor), big topmount, and usdm STI turbo, running through a ver6 STI 4.44 5speed. ~320whp.
I've got the same tranny and it is really geared well for the 1/4, not so much for highway pulls. This is just going off of the old drag racers theory that the fastest gearing is the one where you finish out 4th by the end of the quarter.

Im the guy the '00 GC with the sti swap. I would recomend to anyone with the chance to do this, do it. Im extremely pleased with the car. I didnt quite manage mid 11's more like mid 12's. It was the first time i had ever been to the strip and im not the best at launching yet. Correcting that and a slightly stronger clutch and i think i could probably squeez out high 11's with the current set up.
ohh where did you get ur motor from? And who did your swap?
the motor is actually a baja turbo motor with and sti ecu and turbo etc. The guy i bought the car from was actually the person that did the swap.Originally Posted by ScoobyRacer
