you have to remember that japan is a really small country. Cities are not so spread out like here. A long ride to work there may be 10 or 15 miles tops. Also, since the roads are so short, the speed limit is lower. it is something like 100km/hr on their "freeway" system. Thats part of the reason why honda's are geared so low. a jdm ITR at 80 mph is turning like 4.5-5k rpm (somewhere around there...), which is pretty high for a cruise speed, but in japan you wouldn't have to worry about it, since at 62 mph (100km/h) the rpm would be less than 4k, which is reasonable. In other words, 75k miles on a jdm engine that is 5-7 years old (98 spec B18C for example) is a little high, 25 would be a little low, and 50 would be about right.
