i live 5 minutes or s0 from that hifi buys and i can vouch for their work, its one of the only hifi buys ive seen some great work come out of. He might have spent 200 on the box, but its gonna be made damn well, and i would have charged him the same if i had done it.

but it takes $30 or so (Carpet, glue, nails/screws(nail gun) and MDF at 22 a sheet) and half an hour to make a box like that, thats fucking rediculous

ok, so standard practice is cost of materials times 3, so its not far off from being right. I know its cheaper to do it yourself, but theres alot of people willing to pay the money for the quality they cannot achieve themselves, and so theydont have to have the hassle of building the box (maybe they dont have the tools, or live in an apartment) Its overprices, i agree, but thats just buisness

the mark-up comes from the design of the box. I agree that a sealed for 210 is overpriced, but if I was to build someone a ported box for 2 12" subs I would charge somewhere in the $200 range. Anyone that builds a box off manufacturers specs is a moron. Those specs are generated by averaging the size of the box, tuning, and port area. They will take a high fidelity box with a very flat BL curve, then a high peaking higher SPL box then cut the difference in half and poof, you have a manufacturer recomended box.

On another note, very nice subs. If I wasnt trying to sell all my audio at the momment I might think about picking them up. I've been considering doing an all eclipse system in my crapalier daily driver.
