If you go down at any reasonable speed, your knees are going to get tore up, with or without jeans. Jeans are not tough enough, unless they are kevlar-reinforced. You'll still be going to the hospital.
Come out to Malibu tonight and look at Mike's knees. He went down in jeans 2 months ago. He is the guy with the yellow 911.
I ride in jeans sometimes. I'm not saying don't do it. I'm just saying don't kid yourself. Any jeans other than Draggin' Jeans aren't going to do anything about protecting you.

Yup, I highsided once wearing jeans and tennis shoes. Jeans got ripped to shreds and both of my shoes flew off from tumbling. Luckily I was wearing a good leather jacket and helmet because I initially landed on my shoulder/face. The force or the impact sufficiently graded the skin off my shoulder through the jacket, But it would have been horrible without it.

I declined an ambulance trip and went home to try to clean the gravel out of my feet/legs, but by the next day I knew I needed medical attention because areas around my abrasions were becoming increasingly red. Got some antibiotics and healed up eventually.

The whole ordeal sucked really bad, but I still ride in jeans, I just try not to crash

Yeah gear is the definitely worth it's weight in gold when you go down. I have a textile jacket, armored overpants (with jeans under them), and boots on everytime I leave the house. May not be as good as full leathers, but definitely better than jeans and a tee shirt.
