Depends on what kind of gas mileage you get.

VERY VERY VERY VERY expenisve, as in more then likely WAY over $5,000 and you would need proper saftey equipment. I used to work for a racing team they would rent it not even for the whole day and it is thousands.

Try Robeling Road, or do a HPDE with NASA. HPDE's are what about $300-$350.

You will love Road Atlanta, SOOOOOOOO much fun! Worth every penny.

And for NASA, and any track day like Road Atlanta does, you do not have to have a cage or anything. 18 for Road Atlanta track days I think but not NASA I did it at 16. Passing is limited in both, if thats what you mean by speed runs. But you can go as fast as you want, just cant pass anywhere.

$20 for grand touring laps at most of the SCCA events, usually get to run for 30-45 minutes But speed is somtimes "limited", i normally just let the front of the pack go so we can play in the back....but they weren't exactly happy with me topping out third gear at 90mph through turn 12 and laying into 4th WOT under the paddock bridge and through the straight ...maybe it was the sound of my car that gave it away

You would be best off doing a track day or auto-x at Little Talledega (Talladega GP) or Roebling Road, before heading onto RA. Those tracks are smaller and lower speeds to help you get used to running on a track, and generally there will be some drivers out there with a little less exspensive cars running around.

It's your money though, so do as you wish. My cousin works at RA as a Panoz driving instructor and he sees too many newbies out there that aren't ready for a big and fast technical track like RA. The s-curves are pretty technical and coming into turn 10 you are flying downhill, so your brakes need to be up-to-par for shure.

Hope I have helped.... you have plenty of years to play, so take your time and approach it right.

Or you guys can come to Black Hills Circuit in Atlanta, its a half mile road course right now getting ready to do some major renovations but it is a blast. Its super cheap for members. All you have to have is a helment and have a safe vehicle. blackhillscircuit.com is the web site go check it out. We drift and do time attack on it all the time, its a blast.

this is for a Panoz day and it doesent matter how much experience you have. if you have/havent driven road atl with panoz before, they will put you in the lead/follow where there is no passing and you follow an instructor. after those days and you go again they let you pass in certain places and your free with no instructor.

I second that. especally the brakes part. 135 mph average coming into turn 10 all day is killer on breaks

The SCCA has a pretty cool deal. If you volunteer to work an SCCA event you get the track time free, they also have a program cost around 100 bucks or so and you get training in your car on the track. I gotta fine the link and post it.

it's not only a fast/technical track, but it's unforgiving in many places. little tally has lots of runoff almost everywhere and is a much better place for a first timer to go.

around town or in sanctioned racing? there's a very big difference.

speaking from experience on motorcycles, i thought i was a good rider overall until i hit a trackday and found out that everything i "knew" was wrong. street and track driving are two different worlds entirely so if all of your "experience" at the ripe old age of 17 is on the streets then i'd suggest starting in a driving school or a trackday that does lead/follow with classroom time.
