Vintage & "Clean" Japanese Car Meet/Show?

The Japanese Classic Car Show www.japaneseclassiccarshow.com/ was 1985 or before but from the beginnning i've said i wanted to combine the two.....old school with the new school. Most shows are either/or but not combined and certainly not 50/50 if they are....then none are solely japanese.

This would be a tuners show, as i mentioned before...a car show for people that wouldn't normally attend a show. From daily driver's to racecar's...for example BRE Datsuns next to Z1 Motorsport's cleanest Z32's next to Batlgrounds drift twin's...a timeline of cleanly done cars, whether old or new, race or street. ISP has put out many insane honda's, now imagine that parked with an all orginal '72 Civic and/or S600 roadster.

What's the chances of getting a JGTC car trailered in. Mmm...or the HKS Altezza. Downing has a few Mazda's, old & new...3 and 4 rotors. OPM Autosports has some of the nicest Rx7's and CRX race cars around and Raceworks has their honda challenge cars and formula mazda's...It doesn't matter what track: road course, drag, drift, or even oval.

it would be nice to combine the two (older and newer vehicles) so people can see their cars "roots". Maybe talk to some people that have "been there, done that" kind of thing....hrmm...maybe a swap meet too?

sounds like a pipe dream, there are a lot of these kids that dont give a fuck about their "roots" or anything other than the eg hatches or some bullshit

i like the sound of this show except the names presented, JDM is G A Y unless you actually have a car that was originally running on japanese streets.

as far as mixing new and old cars, its going to be a 95/5% new/old ratio and its going to be every other show around.

I don't consider any those vintage.

To me, vintage would be Datsuns, Hondas(before 1984), Toyotas(before 84). I don't see any Acuras as being vintage. The older, early 80s RXs. Later, QD.

as much as i would love to have a 15 year minus cut off its true. EG's EF's and DA's things like that are too common. i'd say 87 would be the highest year. anything past that you usually see still running around on the road. if its going to be vintage that i would say 87 and down. and 87 the highest depending on the model of the car. and are you making this a JDM only show or a vintage show? or is it kinda both?

i mean, i think the idea for this show started off great, a classic japanese auto show. but then people are like "well have new cars too so it can blend the two..." nah, its going to be the same bullshit as normal car shows. some old cars will show up, but i think if a lot knew all sorts of shit was going to be there then they wont show up like they dont show up to car shows now, they dont want to be around all these new jacks (not everyone) that are rice shitheads

ok, the plan is once NOPI rolls around i'm going to get pics of ideal cars i'd like to see participate. I honestly don't want a voting or judging process just to get an invitation to register, it's impossible to please everyone and once people starting getting excluded nobody will have a good time. The only way around this is to set requirements from the beginning and run with it. It's too difficult to make the seperation between "clean" modern cars and "rice" so sticking to a specific year range is the only way to do it. Year ranges very from show to show but there should be more than enough participation for japanese models 1989 and before.

Ideally I would like to see cars parked by manufacturer, as in a normal Autoshow. Now depending on the space available I would like to include all years of local japanese race cars...so if your car meets the requirements for any racing organization, excluding scca's autocross, then there will be an area designated for them and the shops, if any, they are affiliated with. As I originally stated, this is a show for people and cars that you wouldn't normally find at a show.

I really like the idea of a (possibly Invitational) track car / vintage show. I am not a typical show person but this has the possibility of being something cool and different. I would definatley be down to support it. I think a simple 198? and older (bodystyles introduced before 198? M.Y.) and track cars up to present day would be very appealing. The Mitty is a great event but this would draw a more mixed demographic crowd. I think the tuner crowd, the Mitty types, and all the race shops mixed together at one event would be awesome. If I was planning such a show I think a night show at a multi-level parking deck would be ideal. It would also keep rain from being a factor.

Lolol I honestly don't see the AE being a vintage car. Old school? Yes. The only real vintage imports would be your older Jaguars, Porsches and Mercedes from back in the 70's and 60's. The Hondas, Toyotas and Datsuns are more of old school type. Later, QD.

To us over a 1/4 century old it may not but to the younger crowd CVCC civics would be considered vintage...

There really is no set guideline/rule per years: state to state antique is generally anything 25 years or older (antique car tags & insurance) while technically antique is vehicles produced up to 1948. "Classic" is said to include antiques and anything up to 1980 (over 25 years) while "vintage" is cars from WWI up to 1930...

Ignoring all car facts or ideas one definition of Vintage is "old-fashioned or obsolete" another is "Characterized by excellence, maturity, and enduring appeal; classic."

BUT As QD said, i think it's a safe bet to refer to it as Old School.

We have the resources to do it...Paul and the rest of the IA crew, A+++ photographers and all their connections, local shops & sponsors, race teams, forums, etc.

A car show for people that don't like car shows, is it possible? I'm envisioning "Jtuned" style, something found acceptable to Honda-Tech and some of the other better manufacturer based websites: club4ag, SELOC, etc. At Nopi I saw several orginal Skylines, have seen many beautiful Datsun and Honda roadsters driving around, 510's & 240z's, and even a few Mazda RX-3's...now combine all the vintage japanese cars we can find with cleanly done late model cars and imagine them all gathered together!

The biggest problem I see is what is an acceptable newer car? Have an invitation only process? Submit a picture to a "commitee" for a yay or nay?! No offense to anyone who has spent valuable time and money on a show car but aiming for vehicles that have performance before looks, less attention to stereo's and ICE and more time wrenching & tuning, etc...a time & place for shops and race teams to show off their work, etc.

A gathering that tells Nopi you're not the only one, lol...ok maybe not that big but at least shows HIN we do have what it takes.

That would be an amazing show, vintage tuner cars. Not sure how big that is in Atlanta though. Cali, clearly has the people.

Still leaves the debate of what is vintage is but with 99% of the import shows being all modern cars anything over 15-20 years old could be considered vintage to us. Vintage Tuner sounds just about good enough for a magazine name at too...of course for the music fans they'll think it's old school AM/FM recievers but oh well, a little marketing can change that. vintagetuner.com expires in October, i want it.

^^ i think the if the gen ended in 89 then it is fine. I do not think that if the same model continued to be produced into the 90's that it should be allowed to enter (example 1989 240sx)
