Actually Ford made a Mustang SVO Turbo in 1984-86. it had a 2.3l turbo that would hang with a 5.0 and produced 205whp. very rare carsQuote:

^^^ thats wierd lookin in my opinion
if some v8 will set me out 10 cars im in:lmfao: :lmfao: :lmfao:
this sounds like a great idea,
steele is a really good track, they take good care of it.
Id prefer to see run what ya brung in my opinion.
As long as it dosent turn out like an episode of pinks
and some of the the imports asking for 10 or more links,
that just aint racing in my book. If you dont think you can beat 'em then dont step up!!
srt-4, mustang (4cylinder turbo), spirit, omni, turbo probe, turbo daytona umm...ok that's all I got :D I don't really consider the cobalts and saturns to be much competition or help for the domestic class.Quote:

edit: I just read the part about possibly renting an 1/8 track :jerkit: I think it should be 1/4. If it ends up being a 1/8 I'll probably just watch.
I'm interested.

1 SRT4 is 1 too many. LOL. J/KQuote:

Its looking more and more like it needs to be just run-what-you-brung. The point here isnt to start some trophy class...its to get out there and let out all of these pent-up keyboard-racing aggressions on your fellow car enthusiasts. So, if you have a mild or stock car, and you dont want to accept a call-out from a racecar, thats understandable. Same applies to the trailer-car vs not. It may just need to be up to you.
Then, we can determine the "fastest 4 cyl" or whatever "classes" we want using the results from the event.
I supposed to have a call setup with an organizer at Steele today, so hopefully Ill have more info on that tomorrow.
BTW, Ive seen some 10 second SVO's out there with the ford 2.3 turbo. Its an archaic motor, but Ive seen people go fast with them. There is also a nitroused SVT focus that I used to hear about at Moreland that ran pretty good. Point is, there are some fast non-SRT4 domestics 4 cylinders LOL
when is this suppose to be goin down?
COGCaviZ24 no offense but why pick appart my post and you really need to check your facts...84-86 Mustang SVO Special Vehicle Operations(not SVT..this might have been before your time)was a stock 2.3L sohc 4 banger intercooled turbo 205-210hp depending on year..was also in the Thunderbird turbo coupe 87-88 and in the Merkur XR4Ti. A non-intercooled turbo version was available in earlier 80's T-bird models. I meant Sunbird not Sunfire...my mistake...but as far as it and the grand am turbo not existing it was available 87,88,89,90(90 in the sunbird not the grand am) (again my bad, I was close on the year)...2.0L 122cid L4 F/I turbo STOCK from GM. Why do I know they exist...I've driven one back in 1990. Black 4 dr Grand Am turbo...with the waste gate adjusted for more boost these things were insane fun, but huge torque steer and NOT alot of aftermarket parts. Oh, the supra comment was not a 1000hp supra stock, I said "drives around town LIKE stock" meaning it doesn't have drivability issues like a huge cam in a V-8 but makes more hp with the boost. By the way who pissed in your cornflakes...I was being complimentary and you tryed to tear me up by picking apart my whole post...WTF??!! At least know what your talking about before telling me I'm wrong. Peace brother...damn!!
Yeah!! TAKE THAT!!! AND BRUSH YA TEETH TOO!!! LOLQuote:

Damn funny to see that stock omni smoke the front tires all the way up a parking lot(1988). Back to the original questions....when & where will this event take place?? I would like to attend even with my slipping 3rd gear...LOL!!

even a 4.3 V6 S10 modded could hang with some
and as metioned above GLHS omni's and the other Shelby cars like Chargers 2.2,
how about the turbo factory toyota pickups 85-86ish
i think it just needs to be run what ya brung. that way everyone will quit bitchin about how the races arent fair. just run someone you think you have a chance with
Just to comment on comments made earlier...
There are people out there who *daily* drive their ~500hp ~ 600hp+ cars to work, school, other places, the track, vacations, long distances, etc. without a problem. It's not like you're going to be making more than 100hp for most of the *daily* driving anyways... and as long as your build is solid and tune is right, nothing should break or overheat 'n what not. Oh, this is assuming by ~500hp ~ 600hp, you mean that power is made on pump gas. If so, then I can see how gas mileage might be an issue... lol
An S10/sonoma with a 4.3 vortec? Those cant be made fast... or can they? :confused:Quote:

The four tracks Ive been looking at are Commerce, Reynolds, Carolina Dragway and Steele.
My preference is Reynolds, although Ive never been to Steele or Carolina. Ive heard that Carolina is a very nice track from several of my friends who have been there.
Steele is known for its "overly enthusiastic" timers, i.e. they tend to show faster ET's than other tracks. However, for the case of a grudge-match type affair, that might not be an issue.
Ive been having a hard time getting in touch with the people at the tracks. They dont have very regular schedules. Ill post an update when I do finally get in touch with them.
I heard from my friends who have organized other events that we are talking around $1500 to privately rent Carolina (I estimated 30-40 cars.) I expect Commerce and Reynolds to be similiarly priced, but I dont know yet. Someone told me that they think Reynolds will do it for $1000, but I havent confirmed.
I did talk to the owner of Steele, and he said they would do it for $500 for a private session, 10am to 3 PM on Sunday, with the option of staying later if you want (but it will open to the public afterwards for normal test and tune.)
Seeing that I dont have any idea who will show-up, and that I dont want to be stuck putting up $1500 and only have a few people come (we would need 60 people @ $25/person to pay me back $1500,) Im leaning towards Steele. Im not looking to make any money personally, but I dont want to be stuck with $1000 balance at the end of the day either.
The *tentative* date at Steele is June 11th.
In the interest of getting more attendance, I think we should let people just race whoever they want. I still want a domestic vs imports part at first, then just a normal racing or test and tune...whatever people want to do. I just havent seen enough domestics chime-in.
I think we will skip "classes" and just make it a call-out grudge-match. Like I said earlier, if you dont want to race a car that was trailered-in, dont. I really dont expect anyone to be trailering-in any track-queens to race in this.
Anyway, when I have more info, ill post it.
i frequent steele, their timers are not enthusiastic. They are right on with all of the others.
june 11th is the same day as the mainstream dyno day just to put out date conflicts with events that people might rather go to closer to home.
on a personal note, july would be good, my car wont be done till like mid june
If I can make it out, I can bring whichever you choose (to help even up the numbers), import or domestic.
we need more domestics.....we should announce this on other sites too. like SVTperformance.com, some corvette and viper forums too.
**Edit**
I supose we need to set a date first though....
OK, Please check out the update on my last post here:
http://www.importatlanta.com/forums/...ad.php?t=60648
If you have any feedback on the tracks, please post it there. This thread is duplicative now.
Thanks for all the feedback. It looks like this could be really cool. Im going to try to put a deposit down next week at one of the two locations.
Im going to ask the admins to lock this thread, and ill start a new one next week when I have the arrangements made. Until then, please post on the thread listed above.
Please do not post this information on any other sites until I have a definate schedule.
