    Default Formula Drift (car show)

    OK....here is the deal.

As most of you know, the Formula D Drift event is around the corner. The past 2 years, they have added a car show to the event. 2 Years ago was somewhat of a disappointment with the judging. Last year, the folks at Slipstream made an adjustment, and judged the event themselves (MUCH MUCH MUCH better). However, the turnout for the carshow was still fairly low.

I have heard a rumor that there will NOT BE A CAR SHOW at this year's Formula D event. This may/may not be true at this point. I know the show promotors look at IA.com to get a feel for whats going on in the area. So, THIS is your chance to make your voice heard. If you want the show to continue, speak now, or forever hold your peace.

We only have a few "National" Level events left in the area. Please do what you can to keep this great event in Atlanta. Post up if you WILL enter the car show. We need your support now!

    Thanks....

Actually the show has been lame for 2 years, due to poor judging and most of all PROMOTERS. They have been very unorganized and care about only one thing $$$ IA and its locals bring to its event. I normally support all big events cause we need them, but I have more fun at local drifting events then Formula D.

I PERSONALY WILL BE AT HIN CHARLOTTE INSTEAD ITS THE SAME DAY AND WELL WORTH THE DRIVE, IF YOU GOT A SHOW CAR I WOULD TAKE IT TO NC FOR A BETTER COMPETITION AND DEFINATELY A BETTER EVENT. THE HIN CREW HAS ALWAYS BEEN GOOD TO THIS SITE AND ITS MEMBERS AND WE WILL CONTINUE TO SUPPORT THEM WHEN THERE ARE HERE IN THE SOUTH.

FOR THOSE WHO DON'T KNOW THEY HAD LIKE 30 CARS ACTUALLY SHOWING LAST YEAR AT FORMULA D, HIN NC HAD OVER 200+ CARS

Yo Paul, I understand why IA supports HIN (as did I) but if you’re going to hijack a thread at least give all the info as to why things went the way they did… I was there and so were you two years ago when NCCA was running the car show for Slipstream, it was THEIR fault not Slipstreams that the show was judged and handled incorrectly. If memory serves NCCA also runs the HIN shows which was a major F-UP here last year and IMO the main reason there is no HIN ATL this year. There are a lot of folks on this site and others that didn’t receive there entry fees back and sat in a parking lot for over 6 hours trying to get in the place to participate “which I’m sure would like a piece of them”, I.E. a good reason to pull the show. Did I want to see HIN go away, nope, but it is what it is…

When it came to last years Formula D car show Slipstream changed it up to do the right thing but damage from the year before (again because of NCCA) hurt participation, instead of 150+ cars (which will come back when they realize what happened) it turned into 30+. So here we are pushing a good car show and drift event with coverage in our home state, not NC! If you don’t want to support fine, make a thread about HIN and back off the support side of Formula D, but you certainly didn’t need to do what you’ve done in this thread (uncalled for hijack) and make a national Drift event and car show with good media coverage look bad…

    T

P.S. I’m in! And will help in anyway possible to make this a great event…

I'm not thread Hi-Jacking i'm stating the facts... Last year i was there doing promotional work for HIN and i had nothing but problems with the entire crew from Formula D, they are very unorganized and really don't care about locals. Its plain and simple, they are more worried about the big drift sponsors and everything else going on then the locals showing, local vendors, etc...

As i stated before HIN has been very good to IA they have always taken care of us w/ the upmost respect and we've had a great realationship with them for years. If i had a show car i would be at HIN over Formula D anyday, the coverage is better, the event is better, and it is geared towards show cars. Do what you want we have people taking coverage of Formulad D, but i will be in NC at HIN having a hella good time at a much larger car show.

you want to see local cars go to formula d, you want competition and see shit you don't see everyday i'll see you at HIN NC

I have enterted the past two shows there and somethign happened to where I was charged twice for the show...so instead of my money being refunded they said they would credit me the next time they come in town....well next year cam by and a different company was incharge of it and I had to pay again to enter....

Im all for the F.D to come back and have its car shows...I would have went if the show wasnt the same day as HIN...

FX will be there and I've made that known to SlipStream we will support it and Fred and the rest are a good bunch of people, at least they didn't ditch Atlanta! I remember when IA was "for the people by the prople" NOT "for the agenda by the agenda". If HIN treats "us" so well then that begs the question doesn't it? It's like the boyfriend that doesn't want the girl around but can't break it off. "Well yea baby you can come over here and see me because I'm too busy to come see you" Smells like sellout to me. What ever happend to our back bone? Hey, if you want some of "this" then you gotta come here. You gotta come to ATL.

I like the idea of both shows. So ya figure if you have a show car you have two options. Either go HIN in NC have a good time with really nice show cars with limited access to my knowlegde of previous HIN shows. Or you can go to a LOCAL Formula D car show and have a great time. It's not about the need for competition. It's about the love of going to shows. You do what your budget can afford. Plus if this show has only been around for 2 years it is still growing. HIN has been around for a while. Even though you have had great exprience with HIN the two years that i have been involved with them it was a headache to a point. Last years HIN ATL sucked ass. There was no standard for car that were on display. It was a LOCAL show to me.

SO Both shows will be good and I'm not sure your statement was facts becuaes there is obviously other people that have different view. SO that makes it an opion.

all shows have good and bad. i've been to more events in the past couple of years than anyone on here, so i would go to say that HIN is better than Formula D. IMO... 30+cars vs. 200+ cars... we are talking about the car show HIN hands down is a better event, its geared towards show cars. Thats the difference in a DRIFT event and a CAR SHOW.

go where you want its your car your money i'm just giving you my take but hey what do i know, i just work here.

Paul the exact same thing can be said about HIN's inability to organize also. I know too as I was also there. Fact, they turned away more cars at the last show then actually attended the show. They were more worried about their corporate sponsors then getting cars on the floor. I saw the same cars there that I see at any major show. As for 30 cars vs 200 you know or may not know, and I think you would know beacuse of the amount of shows you have been to, that the first FD had 160+ cars and they actually ran out of space to park show cars. I defenately saw cars then that I never saw before at that show. We all know why attendance fell, its a well know fact. It's like you said in defence of Drift Fury if you can put on a better show then do so. FD is trying to do that. As for hi-jacking, well, you started a fire storm off of a simple post to say DF was having a show. Yes you are stating facts but your bashing to save face for HIN on lookers IMO, but hey what do I know I don't "even" work here

OK NOW THAT YOU GUYS WANT TO CALL ME OUT ON THIS SINCE I HURT SOME FEELINGS...

OK WHERE WAS YOUR CLUB AND ALL OF THE OTHER ATLANTA CLUBS LAST YEAR AT FORMULA D? I DISTINCTLY ONLY REMEMBER TEAM ECI, ALLSTARS, CCR, NOPI, & TRAFFIC JAMS THERE WITH CARS.... WELL I WAS SPECIFICALLY TOLD BY LOCALS INCLUDING TOM THAT PEOPLE DID NOT SHOW FOR THE REASON OF HOW THEY WERE TREATED BY FORMULA D.

    1) MY POSITION W/ FORMULA D IS QUITE DIFFERENT I WAS THERE AS A VENDOR DOING PROMOTION WORK FOR HIN, I HAD MANY FRIENDS AT THE EVENT AND KNEW ALOT OF PEOPLE AT THE EVENT. IT LEFT A VERY BAD TASTE IN MY MOUTH ON HOW I AND OTHERS WERE TREATED AND HOW THE SHOW PORTION OF THE EVENT RAN.

    2) I DON'T HAVE TO SAVE FACE FOR HIN, THEY DON'T PAY ME. I WORKED A FEW EVENTS FOR HIN LAST YEAR B/C MILES/JASON ARE GOOD GUYS AND THEY TREAT IA GOOD.THEIR EVENTS ARE ALWAYS STRONG THEY LEFT ATLANTA MARKET B/C IT WAS ONE OF THEIR WEAKEST EVENTS. THOSE WHO TRAVEL OUT OF STATE SHOULD KNOW THAT. BUT AS FAR AS CAR SHOWS GO THEY ARE THE TOP DAWGS, THEY PUT ON A GREAT EVENT AND REALLY TRY TO GET IN TOUCH W/ THE LOCAL SCENES AS MUCH AS THEY CAN.

like i said before i don't care what you do w/ your cars or your money, i and many others will be at HIN NC b/c of the previous drift atl events. this is my OPINION, everyone is entitled to theirs people run their mouths all the time on these boards, but obviously when i say something its like i should have to set some type of example.... Fuck that, i can say what i want, i will gladly tell Fred and anyone else from Formula D what i think of their previous events here. I've heard their other events are great but here in ATL they are 0/2 w/ me. oh by the way it was dumb to book formula D on the same weekend as the closest HIN to atl

My feeling are not hurt at all Paul I got thick skin bro. I'm arguing the points you make as being the exact same for both sides of the fence. I can point out the same errors made by HIN as you do for FD it goes both ways sir.

Example: The last HIN was on the same weekend as one major ATL sports event and graduation (high shool & college) weekend just as you point out the FD being same weekend as HIN this year. The thing that killed it for FD and THE reason I personally did not go was the NCCA judging issue NOT how FD treated anyone.

It's just like you say when people got critical about your Drift Fury, hey if you can organize and run one better then do it. The point IS we can change that rather then letting some tell us where and how a show should be run. We / IA should be the partner of choice in making that decision, and you should be pissed about it, then show them how to do it right and successful! Is that not the long term game plan for IA to position itself as strategic marketing partner for major events as part of the total package?

Hey's its good to debate it out it's how we move forward. I don't like the situation with a mojor show leaving ATL and would hate to see another one leave. I feel it should change by doing somthing about it. When the numbers droped in the car show part of FD it got their attention. Now lets see if it starts to change.

O.K. here's my take on it. First, Formula D is blast to attend. I have shown the last two years there but the car show sucks major balls and I will not waste my time showing there in the future unless Paul or someone from IA asks me to. If you go to Formula D, rent one of their golf carts, drink a bunch of beer and have a good time but forget the car show. Whoever said it is right, the NCCA did a piss poor job judging that event two years ago and last year was much, much worse.

As for HIN. I've been to the last two HIN Atlanta events and they were a blast but entrance into the event last year was absolutely unacceptible. Then for HIN to not hold the Atlanta event this year is a complete sell out. It just plain sucks. Atlanta is in our backyard and for HIN to turn their noses up at us tells me they don't want us. Fine. Message understood. For the record, HIN Orlando is great and HIN Miami sucks so go figure. If IA or other friends ask me to attend a HIN event for them, then I'll do so for them but to waste my time going to a car show where it's ALL political and we know in advance that Jay Laub is going to win best of show just doesn't do it for me anymore.

And yes I know HIN has been good to IA and respect that. I consider Andy Goodman and many others with HIN/NCCA friends but they took away the best show we have in Georgia and I'm still pissed about it. I'll bet NOPI paid them not to come back but whatever.

I'm looking forward to spending my money here at home when Formula D gets here.

Thank you Tripper, you seriously need an award for being the nicest guy in the import scene.

All shows have flaws its a known fact shit i'll be the first to tell you everything wrong w/ IA's TUNERFEST, but if your going for a car show i don't think Forumula D is the ticket, great for drifting poor on everything else, i think HIN has a better package for car shows. And i'm pissed they aren't here so i'm going to make dayum sure i support the events they have left in the south.

I personally wish it wasn't booked on the same weekend, that again is poor job on the promoters side, but hey what can you do.

That is the mission for IA, but it isn't a reality there are many local/outside promoters that don't look this way; which is fine, but thats why we are here to tell our members our opinions on events. My loyalty is to my members plain and simple. I want them to support the people who have supported us in the past.

Well Tom you took it personaly i didn't intend to make it that way... You spoke to me about the event but the promoters are Formula D and whoever they use NCCA or not, they are still the target for any concerns... They are the powers to be for the event. Any fuck up's at my events come back to me, as they should b/c I make the decisions. I don't shy away that everyone makes mistakes, HIN has theirs as well.

It still comes down to this .... Formula D isn't known for car shows, HIN is. This thread is about going to a CAR SHOW. I never thread HI JACKED i specifically spoke about the event and its competitor, this is nothing different than someone posting about a shop they dislike.

Whatever, get pissed if you want, think what you want to think... for the record i alone when to 75+ events all over the east coast last year. I've pulled many a weekends w/ 2-3 events. I too have been around the block and before i was a member here i used to participate in shows, when slap was here i was the highest points leader in the state, until i decided to stop going b/c all they cared about was the $$$.

Damn like 5 years of doing sorry events.. thats to many chances, dont you think ?

What paul is saying is/was simple... IA.COM does not care for Forumula D.. thats all =]

I think Formula D should simply forget about the ATL market. Im honestly suprised they came back this year.
The RD ATL marketing people were not happy at all with the results last year..

    On another Note:
this thread reminds me.. What happened to the Team FX cars? Didn't see any? Yet some of you come on here and sorda get upset over what we got to say.. I didn't see Formula D sponsoring the FX show. good job.

    Well said.

And For the first show they have ever done with drifting and a show, I know MANY people thought the show was a success. Some events that didnt go off as planned didnt have shit to do with IA or the people who ran/promoted the event, It had to do ALL with Turner property management changing things after everyone got there.

    [QUOTE=Brett]Well said.

I've explained what happen to our group in my forum but I will do it again for you Brett. I was already at 2 day show. My intention was to be a DF and I did support it. I got tied up with a sponsorship offer for the next FX show. I made it a sticky in the team forum and it was topic at the team meeting. We have a lot of guys with a lot of different focus. We had people in Tennessee showing the same weekend and my northside contact was in Inidanapolis (spelling?). I had a group that was supposed to be there and only three showed but did not compete. I was not at all pleased when I was told about the lack of attendance. I don't feel the question of my supporting IA is an issue here. The whole debate was over HIN vs FD. If my support of IA has not been proven over and over again for the last four years then someone needs to take off the blinders. I consistantly provide coverage for events and always come through when Paul or Pablo need pictures and don't have photos. When I write atricles I always find a way to drop IA's name along with your team's name, and any other team that I see at shows. Hell Brett I've dropped your name personaly in articles along with Pablo and Julio. When most people are sitting back chilling I'm working the whole show taking photos to get coverage out there.

Which reminds me when I get asked for photos I give everyone a link that asks for them and I get a promise they will post them and when they don't I never question their support. I just figure they didn't like the content and I strive to do better next time.

Eddie I find it ironic you single me out of all this when Julio is the one who made the actual comment, I simply agreed due to one of your members wanting to bash the IA show last weekend when many werent even there to see how it was. So take it as you will, either way your choice, But DO NOT try and single me out and accuse me of trying to question how you support IA. I never once have done that. If you are going to try and put words and thoughts in my head, we will then have a problem.

first of all i want to be the first to appoligize i am a member of import atlanta and i am not here to piss anybody off so im sorry if i sounded disrespect full. this is my first year with all the shows and shit so i dont know much about drift d or w/e. i just like to go to pretty much everyshow because i like cars not b/c IA sponsers it or FX is there or w/e. ive been to shows were non of my team was there. i was also at drift fury but i was there supporting the allstars. most are good friends of mine im sorry my car wasnt there. i chewed my team out for not being there. all im saying is. i dont like ppl that come on and put down a show or w/e. the same show happens every year for a reason and thats to make it better every year. kinda like with are cars y do we spend money why do we redo things all the time so it looks better for the upcoming year or show season. once again no disrespect.
