Default DGTrials Gymkhana Events - Nashville, Nov. 18 and Dec. 16

    Information:
DGTrials announces, for real this time, a winter gymkhana series!

    Nashville Dates:
Sunday, November 18, 2007 - Nashville Super Speedway
Sunday, December 16, 2007 - Nashville Super Speedway - CANCELED

    Atlanta Dates:
Sunday, November 4, 2007 - Turner Field (Blue Lot) - CANCELED
Sunday, December 2, 2007 - Turner Field (Green Lot) - CANCELED

    Pricing:
    Pre-reg Price: $45
    Gate-reg Price: $50
    Non-drivers: $5
Runs: 10 minimum, $1 fun runs if there is time
    Driver cap: 80

    Classing:
There will be open classing for this first event. What does this mean? Run what you brung in one of three classes:

    FF: front-engine, front-drive
    FR: front-engine, rear-drive
    AWD:
    four-wheel or all-wheel drive

Mid-engine or Rear-engine vehicles (a'la Porsche, MR-2, etc) will be classified with FR vehicles.

    Points & Scoring:
Overall winners will be determined by using each driver's "best 3 out of 4" events in their respective class.
    1st - 10 points
    2nd - 8 points
    3rd - 6 points
    4th - 4 points
    5th - 2 points
    6th - 1 point
Event points will be calculated in-class based on your time (low score is good)
Knock a cone out of the box/over = +2 sec
    Off course = no score

This will be an autocross-style event. If you are not driving you will be asked to shag cones. Fortunately, the entire course is only comprised of 15 cones!
    15 cones?!

I can't speak for anyone else, but coming from an autox background I'd be very concerned about chasing cones - just based on your course layout.

Or will you only replace cones after the car has left the course?

Also, that top loop after the first slalom - how far does the car have to go out before making the U-turn?

I'm assuming there will only be one car on course at a time?

Your concerns are very valid -- this layout is difficult to chase cones on because of the many double-back portions of the course. The only logical places for corner workers are above and to the right of the figure 8, near the start, and near the finish. We'll just have to run a bit to clear some of the cones.

If no cones are hit during a run, the 2nd car will be released as the first car leaves the right side of the course towards the 360 turn cone. Depending on the nature of the cone that has been downed, the 2nd car will be started appropriately.

A vehicle must pass entirely through the gate before turning around. If someone is really adventurous, they could attempt to begin the u-turn before the gate, however the car would still have to completely pass through the gate (corner workers will act as spotters and call DNF appropriately). Trying to u-turn before the gate is not encouraged.

And, finally -- all of the above is subject to change. As you know, autocross courses take some "finessing" on set-up day and the layout may be tweaked slightly. We will also gauge the layout for safety as we drive it and try to place corner-worker stations appropriately. This is the layout we will try to run for all 4 events at both venues, but it may not work. This is our first hack at this whole gymkhana thing, and we're going to concentrate on making it as fun and competitive as possible.

Thanks for your questions, keep them coming!
