XBOX360 Making Weird Noise Upon Start-Up
When I turn on my XBOX360, it's making this loud@ss whirling noise. I know it's not normal and it doesn't affect gameplay or anything, but it's weird. Also, if I turn the system off and then back on, it goes away. Anyone got any ideas?

i had mine standing upright and it did it the first time i turned it on...(vertical) what happens is the disc falls off track and it'll end up scratchin the hell out of your game.. puts a nice deep circle all the way around the disc...
it may also happen during game play.. if u bump the console at all.. or if there are any (vibrations) in the floor... so be careful.. i found this out the hard way.

... the over heating problem was more the first gen 360's then the new ones... but u never know i guess...

Never heard of that. I was actually told to get one to keep it from overheating. Just had to make sure I got the small one that clipped on the back, not the huge one that attaches to the side.

I did some quick research and you're right, it is the rear-mounted Nyko Intercooler. However, the defect rate is very slim. I may disconnet it. Not sure yet.

I get my reviews for GI and IGN. Both sites had their shares of good and bad reviews. Also, the Intercooler seems to do it's job fairly well and the margin for defective units was relatively low. Either way, to be safe I disconnected mine.
i got some cooling fans for the back but its not the intercooler. I got it at Fry's when i bought mine. They kick in after the system as been on about 20 min and u can feel them moving the air if u stick ur hand back there

i have the intercooler and mine works great,no problems since i got it with a new 360,in june
I disconnected the intercooler yesterday and the problem seems to have gone away. If it comes back, I'll let you guys know.
Told you the intercooler was shit. I don't care where you get your official reviews but the fact is, the thing draws power away from your xbox, so you dwell on that for a minute..
Then what else do you use instead of the intercooler?
I'm havin' the same problem, and I'm thinking it's just the fan in the intercooler warming up or something. dunno if it runs on a bearing or what, but it seems to quiet down a few mins after running so I'm not too worried about it. i'm more worried about the damn freezing in the middle of football games.
as long as u have it on a flat surface (preferably not carpet) and don't keep a bunch of junk or clothes on top of it that prevents it from "breathing" u don't really need any intercoolers at all.
i just got the intercooler and works fine so far...man the 360 gets hot!
