    Default Who gots Jazz?

    I started out taking lessons as a jazz drummer when I was 6 and eventually taught technique for about 4 years. It's gettin to be kind of a rare breed of young people who are into it. I'd be impressed if anybody on here was into it.

    I mean you can say you do even if it's like Dizzy,Duke Ellington,Count Basie,Marsalis' and other well known artists....

    For the winner though;

    Who likes the dirty old ass jazz, just fast as hell, all over the place stuff? Max Roach, Buddy Rich, some old Coltrane,Charlie Parker,Thelonius Monk, Miles Davis, Stan Getz, and all the bebop guys, etc....

    I listen to a little Miles Davis, Dizzy Gaellespy (sp?) and a small amount of John Coltrane. I usually have a hard time finding out artists names in a particular genre when I want to listen to them. Sadly what I've only heard very limited amounts of jazz... and I'm working on trying to learn a little jazz guitar because all I ever play is impov. by myself...

    Yeah it's fun stuff to listen too and even more fun to play.

    You saw my drumset crammed in my corner last night. Too bad i can't play very loud and I have to use the brushes.

    I started getting into jazz like 10 years ago...but kind of from a different direction. I've always been into metal, so when I heard about Buckethead, I checked him out. That led me to Praxis. That led me to Bill Laswell. He's been all over the friggin map. Worked with people on all ends of the spectrum (he played bass on Herbie Hancock's Future Shock). But anyway, that got me into a lot of weird jazz fusion stuff. So it's eventually led back to more traditional styles of jazz. I'm more into older jazz/rock fusion stuff like Mahavishnu Orchestra and Al DiMeola, but I'll still dig the hell out of the jazz radio stations.

    Wanna hear some weird shyt...check out stuff by John Zorn. He's a lunatic genius sax player....done everything from playing on 2 Mr Bungle CDs to making soundtracks for gay porn. He was in a really badass noise/experimental band with Bill LAswell called Painkiller.

    OK, back to jazz....I've been playing bass for over 10 years, and can swing a LITTLE jazz. I've just spent a lot more time playing metal

    Oh, and Estis...I like your taste in paint schemes. Wet sanding that mofo with some 400grit will make it come out LOT smoother.
