    Default Official NBA OFFSEASON THREAD

With the NBA season over, can we close the other thread and shift everything to here please.

Hawks offer Danny Ferry a 6 Year GM Deal! This is great news, Ferry ran the LBJ Cleveland Cavaliers that went to the Finals and has been with the spurs for the last 3-4 years. This is a good sign for the Hawks as Ferry has shown he can build teams worthy of competing on the highest stage.

Interesting. So we can somewhat expect the Hawks to star picking it up.

Maybe now they wont pass on players like Deron Williams and Chris Paul to draft players like Marvin Williams.... im so fucking tired of seeing the hawks pick up SF's, whether it be through draft OR trades.....

But honestly, I don't think we will ever do anything until we are no longer dealing with Joe Johnson and his contract.....

Smoove its too bad, hes such a good good talent. Its his attitude that gets the bet of him and his BBALL IQ isnt so high.

He kinda summed up the whole season when he took taht horrible 19 foot jumper and bricked it against the celtics. Truth is we really dont need him and Horford as they almost play the same position.

Marvin Williams was supposed to be the NEXT BIG THING, look how that has turned out.

JJ is too much like Carmelo, except without the tremendous shooting. Hes an ISO player, and hes just not that good in ISO situations.

But we have JJ for awhile, Smoove is up this year hes the one on the auction block

How in the hell was HE supposed to be the next big thing, he didnt even start for North Carolina. Wasn't he their 6th man? One of the worst draft decisions in the history of the NBA.

And Josh Smith is great defensively. His problem is, he wants to be a guard and doesn't have the talent. He gets the rebound and thinks he has enough skill to dribble up the floor and make a good pass or take a good layup, most of the time he just makes a horrible decision.

Joe Johnson has no driving ability. He isolates, but the problem is, we ALL know he's going to take a 3 point shot or a long 2 point shot. Yea we are STUCK with JJ for a LONG time, his attitude is HORRIBLE as well. I was at the game when he gave the hawks fan's the middle finger. a true asshole, as much as people hate lebron james, they should hate JJ 20x more.

Marvin WIlliams was talked up about being the next big deal, steal in the draft. PF who could shoot and run. His minutes are way down and we have no use for him anymore. Youre right, josh is a much better post player he needs to stop trying to be a SG.

Hopefully we can move Marving WIlliams and Smoov for some real talent. Marvin would be a good fit for someone like MIami or BOston, just a good cheap banger with althleticism.

    Steve Nash to the Knicks?

i dont think it would help them too much.... their defense is soft as cotton, Steve Nash isnt gonna help that.

I do to, but they need a floor general and somebody who can also SCORE. Joe Johnson will never be enough. Look at the rest of the East, another big man besides horford is NOT needed. Just a big defender.

HOT HOT HOT rumor is Josh Smith for Pau Gasol. Hawks supposedly REALLY want Pau. Lakers dont want Smith as bad i read, but are intrigued by his athleticism and defense.

I dont really want Pau, i think we can do better. Josh SMith is a 19ppg/9rebound/1-2 blocks per game asset last year, Im not sure Pau would replace that.

You would be surprised how held back Pau is in L.A..... He would be GREAT on the east coast. Put him at the Center position and put horford at his natural position. Then we wont have a PF/C standing at the 3 point line trying to shoot jump shots, or a PF who gets rebounds and thinks he can run the fastbreak on his own..... i really hope josh smith leaves. I know JJ isn't going anywhere, because nobody wants to take on that crazy contract, but I'll just settle with smith leaving.

I believe he's got more productive years left in him then j.smith..... he's a crutch to the hawks, imo. BTW, dont forget that smith likes to play on the perimeter, he messes up their spacing, i'd like to see gasol on one side and horford on another.....

you see first take today? talking about trading harden for the #2 pick because harden will want between 11-14million dollars a year..... harden to the bobcats? LMAO... i would feel so bad for him, lol....

no no no Joe Johnson for a bunch of expiring contracts. Basically the Hawks would shed 90 million owed Joe Johnson, get back a bunch of bench players and maybe that Marshon guy or Kris Humphries. The big deal would be getting out of Joes Contract which means to me they are going to blow the team up this year, and rebuild.

If JJ goes, then you know Smoov is going . Who does that leave us with.............

At SOME point, we have to start TRYING to win a championship though. Doesn't it seem like we build teams to make it to the playoffs only? LoL

I mean we do have to compete with the NEW eastern conference though.... boston, chicago, indiana, miami, new york.... etc

yup! We lost 103 million dollars in contracts today in exchange for 22 million HAHAHAHA

We now became the ONLY team to be able to sign both D12 and CP3 to max deals HAHAHAHAHAHAHA Not that it will happen, but our future looks pretty bright.

I just got into it with a guy on facebook. He says the hawks will FOREVER regret the day they got rid of Joe Johnson, then he said that "Joe johnson is more valuable to the hawks then Chris Paul is to the clippers" And that" Joe johnson is considerably better then CP3, and said CP3 is a soft ass player"....

Here is my response from another board i am on on the matter. Basically the Hawks were a 2 round playoff team at best with JJ, without JJ, we arent much worse, still a playoff team, and we have 80-90 million dollars in freed up money to spend next year. With JJ, going forward, we had really no hope of getting over that hump because his contract keeps us from signing anyone else. Without his contract, we are still a playoff team IMO, and itll only be for 1 year, because next year we can reload and buy whatever we want.

The trade is done, there was misreporting about it being contingent upon D Will resigning but that was false. JJ is gone, and so is Marvin Williams. People were up in arms that we got "nothing" in return, but i look at it this way........

With JJ we were severely handicapped going forward and we were going to lose Josh Smith, or trade him for not much in return. We would be a perennial second round at best exit playoff team for the next 4 years till Joes contract was done.

NOW, we lost 103 million dollars in contracts from 2 players, and get back 5 players and a draft pick costing us 22 million? THANK YOU DANNY FERRY.

Our Starting roster next year as of now looks like Teague, Smoov, Horford, Harris, and...........who cares? LOL We still have ZAZA, and whoever else we are going to sign.

I still think that is a 1st round playoff team so what did we REALLY lose? And now next summer we can sign CP3 (WHO WAS DESPERATE TO BE DRAFTED BY ATLANTA) AND D12. We just became the only team who can afford to sign BOTH.

Im not advocating that we should sign both, but we will have serious serious cap space without giving up much at all. Hawks will still make the playoffs this year.

Broussard reporting that The Nets will have to get a 3rd team involved to pull of the Howard trade. Orlando wants to ship off one of its big bloated contracts and Nets cant afford it.

Orlando and Lakers trade talks are heating up

Nash to the Lakers and Kidd to the Knicks. Very interested to see how Nash works with the Lakers. That could be the missing piece for them.

Dont see Kidd solving the Knick's problems. They need athleticism on the defensive side of the court.

Insider report says theyre keeping Gasol and Bynum since they got Nash. I'm sure any Howard deal would include Gasol or Bynum
