Okay, first off let me say that I'm not a huge "Oprah Fanclub" guy, but we just got around to watching this on a spur-of-the-moment thing.

    Wow.

Completely caught off-guard by this movie. I had no idea what the movie was about going in, but this is something that I feel a movie like "The Blind Side" could have been. It's one of those "ghetto upbringing and overcome" films, but not one that leaves you laughing at the stereotypes. Shot in 1980's type cinematic quality, the film itself presents itself in a very realist fashion and is very powerful. A bit overpowering at times, but providing an in-depth look at just how some people actually are brought up in tough situations. I hated some characters and genuinely felt for others. Some of the scenes provide some very strong "WTF?" emotions, while others wrap you up in them otherwise.

If anyone on here has a knack for films such as The Blind Side, Lean on Me, American History X, Crash, or such then I highly recommend this for viewing.

Yeah, it doesn't seem to appeal to me personally but I've been hearing great reviews. I should look into watching this someday.
