shit $500 will only buy cheap Gen 1 stuff. Gen 1 is not even as good as your naked eye on a clear night with a little moonlight. To be able to actually use them and see more than 20 yards you need Gen 2, which will run you at least $1000. Gen 3 NVG's run in the $2000 range, and they go up from there. A good thermal scope will only set you back about $7000 lol.
