    Default Movie Recommendation Thread

Wanted to start a thread where you could post movies that you have seen that might not be well known that are really good. It could even be well known movies that you just really enjoyed. Post info about it if you can find it including a trailer if you can find one. Even documentaries you might know that are really good, post them up

    Mine is - Felon http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1117385/

Link to the Trailer - http://www.imdb.com/video/screenplay/vi2849702169/

Trailer makes it look kinda cheesy but it really is a good movie.

Its about an unfortunate guy who gets locked up for trying to protect his house family. Gets locked up for 3 years. He struggles to keep his family together all the while trying to survive jail.

    2nd film i recommend is

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0371724/

    Trailer - http://www.imdb.com/video/screenplay/vi2445345049/

Really funny movie that doesn't get boring after the first time watching. The trailer pretty much sums up the movie lol.

    Blue, White, and Red.
A trilogy of movies that demonstrate the meaning of the colors of the French flag. They are funny, sad, and passionate, they are a life's work for Kieslowski, he died after finishing Red. White is easily the most palatable of the three, being the most like an American movie and the funniest in my opinion, it is a struggle of one man winning back his wife and proving that he is a man in his own right. It defines what it is to be a man and not just a guy. All three are tied in with each other and they are good as well, I just haven't seen them in years and they aren't as cemented in my memory.

    The Science of Sleep.
Obviously I'm into French films, but this is from one of the greatest directors of our generation, in movies and in music videos, he's easily my favorite. It's quirky like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Be Kind Rewind, but it exemplifies his ingenuity when it comes to in-camera trickery and still contains an odd, never perfect story line of the perfect French film.

Though both of these had a decent release, I rarely hear them mentioned and think that they don't get enough play for being so fabulous.

Now for a more common couple of movies, Time Bandits and The Adventures of Baron Munchausen, I loved them as a kid and have been thinking of them lately and how great they actually were. There is something about Terry Gilliam's work that is innocent and fantastical, obviously, but I get lost in these movies and they were so real when I was little.

    Just watched it yesterday.

    Chocolate.

This movie is done by the same crew that did Ong Bak, and The Protector. About a girl who is "special" and austistic and has an uncanny ability to learn martial arts just by watching other people do it. Highly realistic? No. Highly entertaining? Yes! Lots of butt-kicking Muay Thai action in this one. It starts out somewhat slow, but it picks up the pace later on, and definitely gets good towards the last 1/3 or so.

Also here's the trailer for a movie called Raging Phoenix, also done by the same company and starring the girl who starred in Chocolate. This movie is newer and hasn't yet hit DVD.

Thanks for posting up guys, lets keep this going

My recommend for the day is

The Evil Dead Army of Darkness - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0106308/

    Trailer- http://www.imdb.com/video/screenplay/vi3253863193/

This is the 3rd movie in a series, To me its the best one out of the series. Its more of a stand alone out of the series of movies, but it has its tie ins. Its a great comedy flic though that can be watched over and over. I do recommend the first 2, but like i said this film is more of a stand alone in the series.

Ash ( main character ) gets sent back in time to the 13th century, and gets hailed as a hero and is sent to find a book, The Necronomicon the only thing that can send him back. As it turns out with him not being the brightest of guys...he miss speaks the incantation and hilarity ensues.

    Nightwatch
    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0403358/
    &
    Daywatch
    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0409904/

These are two movies in a Trilogy, from what I've heard. The stories are about battles between light and dark and it's pretty damn epic. My sister-in-law is Kyrgy and these movies are huge in Russia, where big movies aren't made very often, so these movies are like Batman Begins or something. Anyway, really impressive stuff.

Also, MCA of the Beastie Boys has a cancerous tumor, so I'm also recommending their video anthology on Criterion, or you can see most of their videos on the Director's Label DVDs of Spike Jonze (Nathaniel Hornblower). Their videos guided me through film school and are a huge reason why I've wanted to make music videos, well, them and Michel Gondry.
