Default My WRT54GS router stopped working?

can routers kinda just burnout over time? its been working fine since i got it, just needed unplugged and plugged back in everyonce in a while. ive tried resetting it with the button in the back and through the routers settings page. I have had the power setting on 11 for a long time. figured maybe having it on max power for so long it may have just died or something. it will show my router on the wireless listing and i can pick it and log into it, it will show full connection on the status but no sites will load, same for my ps3. when i check my internet connecting with that it obtains the ip address, then fails on the internet conncetion. any clue what i could do to fix this other than buy a new router? sucks being attached to the damn cable all the time!

well i called and they had me reset and reconfigure it. they had me change a different setting than i usually had to, but its working now.

if anyone else wants to try from what i remember this is how they told me to do it. after resetting it, goto 192.168.1.1, default username is admin, default password is admin. then i had to goto setup > mac clone address > enable > then click clone my PC's Mac. when your done with that goto wireless, select mixed, make your username, select channle 11 and enable. then on my own cause it has always stopped problems i goto adminstration and disable UPnP. then we went back to wireless security under wireless and set up a WEP with 1 key, 62bit 10 hex encryption and my code in the key 1 box. hopefully that helps whoever else needs it fixed

huh? im assuming your talking about someone who has a router but has no security set up, and hasnt logged in and changed the settings. i used to use other peoples net when they didnt have security, never tried getting on their router settings though.

Thats from your Ethernet cables getting to hot which brings more heat to the router, just unplug it for a sec and plug it back in and it should be good to go. If its a Lynksys then its common. If its really old then yes its prob no good, i keep my stuff in a cooler area and that will make a big difference
