    Gran Turismo 5 - Christmas 2009!
    November 30th, 2008

From a very surprising yet highly reliable source, we’ve got the most likely and realistic Gran Turismo 5 release date! Sony’s chief executive in southern Europe, James Armstrong, revealed in a statement to Spanish newspaper El Financiero that we can expect the game to arrive (in Europe, at least) Christmas 2009. Here’s the full translated quote:

For next year, the chief executive of Sony Computer Entertainment for southern Europe said that they are developing a new game thriller, in which the player may be designing their own history, and the new version of Gran Turismo, which will arrive at Christmas.

This would provide for a late summer release in Japan, and late fall/early winter releases in the United States and Europe. From a sales perspective, it would also provide the PlayStation franchise with a major blockbuster release heading into next year’s Christmas season. What do you think? Join the discussion in our Gran Turismo 5 forum!

Does anyone even still care about this game? Haha, unless it literally transports you behind the wheel of a GT3 on the Nurburgring when you pop the disc in, I can guarantee you that it will not live up to the hype or the outrageously long development time.

In the meantime I'll be playing Forza 5 on my Xbox 1080 while GT fans are still waiting on an official release date.

    [/end rant]

I cant agree with you there.

I had Forza 2 for over a year and it was a very good game at the time i must say. (i play with no aids what so ever)

But, I found myself going to best buy at times just to have that brilliant cockpit view that you get in GT5 that makes the experience so much better. The days of the front bumper cam are over imo and this is how games now have to be made. GT5 is now working deals with those manufacturers we were once denied and Kaz is just keeping it under wraps until the very end.

I for one have no problem waiting for GT5 because unlike Forza 2, it is not a rushed product. Kaz gets it to his liking and goes from there that is why damage will not appear in the game till it is satisfactory to his standards. Really and truly, i would have no problem with GT5 being a 2010 release because i still pick up the Ps2 to hit GT4 and i did the same thing when i had the xbox and Forza 2. Forza 2 was something i hit regularly for about 6 months and never really was all that excited to play it afterwards.

GT4's world was more entertaining to me than is Forza 2. I'm not ignorant to the fact Forza 2 had very good physics (not pc good but still good) but the game in general was not the experience that i want it to be. I would play for 20 mins and put it down. My friends and i could play GT5 for hours. The graphics are breathtaking and i usually just watch the replays to see how amazing it looks.

I couldn't agree more. I still play GT4 whenever I get tired of GT5P. I can't say the same about Forza 1 or 2, simply because of the fact that Forza felt too arcade-y to me. GT is more of a simulation rather than Need For Speed type fun. I've owned Forza 1 and 2, but I still have GT1-5P. I think that says something.

I agree completely. I still bust out the PS2 every once in a while to play GT4. I'm sure the full version of GT5 will be awesome.

it will only be worth the wait if its the sickest GT EVER MADE. And it better be REALLY INNOVATIVE not just GT4 with more cars an better graphics.

the way they have prolonged and hyped this game up, anything short of the most epic game ever created will be FAIL

But "sickest GT EVER MADE" will vary from person to person.

Im a member of GTplanet (GT Forum) and there are always huge arguments on what GT should have and what it shouldn't.

The #1 thing you need to know that has been acknowledged by the GT staff is GT5 will NOT have as many cars as did GT4. A car in GT5 could take months to render. The Ferrari F40 for example took 6 months to complete. GT4 never allowed those levels of detail and i always got the impression that Forza's people weren't all that concerned about it in the first place. I get so annoyed by people marveling at Forza's damage engine when it was appalling. I'm sorry but at the end of the day, a 200 mph head on crash doesn't result in a loose bonnet and broken steering.

Grid is better but it still annoys me that in the super slow motion shots, you can see the cars crumpling when the cars are still 1-2 feet apart from each other. + the physics weren't that good either. I felt Forza was better there as well.

The big thing to see know is Gran Turismo is in a much closer position to certain car manufactures than any other game. This is why Nissan let them make the LCD display in the GTR and named the special edition Yellow 350Z as the Gran Turismo Edition in Europe. GT has a position where they need to prove their worth as an advertising base for these car manufacturers and therefore, i feel GT will become a game that focuses on the most current products from the brands.

So like i was saying, consider the amount of people this game has to please and all those that want different things then you. On GT planet, there is a whole community that only like the classic cars and vans that make less than 100hp. GT is different things to different people. Forza was just a pure supercar/racecar game. That suits me rather nice but i just wish more of those cars will make their way into GT. But we will see.

AGREED 100% but I want to point this out

Forza was just a pure supercar/racecar game.
While I will agree with you that GT>Forza>Grid>.....>NFS. Froza 2 was much more than a supercar race game. There were still the old 2G Eclipse's, Civic Si's, Miata's, etc. I think that this is something that I really hope that GT doesn't lose sight of. Because at the end of the day, to me it doesn't matter, virtual or real world I want to mod the cars that are realistically in my grasp(granted I have a all motor R8 on Forza 2 among others).

    I acknowledge that.

The point i made came from Forza inclusion of Ferrari, Maserati, Lamborghini, Koenigsegg, Porsche, McLaren and others.

Kaz has hinted on these being in GT5 but it isn't 100% yet.

Sorry, I wasn't at all trying to turn this into a Forza vs. GT debate. I should have addressed that after the first post. I was simply trying to use it as a humorous example as to how long it will be until this holy grail of a game gets released. Like Mr. Kidd, I think that there is an extremely slim chance that this game can possibly live up to the build-up and hype. That's awesome that it took them 6 months to render a car (I guess), but honestly will anybody even be able to tell the difference if instead it only took them 1 month?

Don't get me wrong, I think it will be a really good game. I don't have that GTR anti-fanboy mentality that just because it is overrated and over-hyped it automatically makes it a piece of crap. I just don't think it can possibly live up to the bar that it's set for itself (aka, me being transported into the cockpit of a GT3 on the Nurburgring). But, like the GTR, I'm sure it will live up to the expectations of all of the hardcore fans. And not that there is anything wrong with that, but it pretty much makes this debate pointless.

Forza vs Gran Turismo is nothing like what the PC players are like. Hardcore rFactor and GTR players are crazy about sims. Simbin probably makes the best phyics in video games so it really pisses me off to know that microsoft own them. I'd be more into PC sims if it didn't cost so much to build a proper pc tower.

Like you said, no one will be 100% pleased but if it really raises the bar the same way GT2 and GT3 did, i think it will have staying factor.

I am a huge GT fan, and I have played other games but GT is what I always go back to. Its the most realistic and thats what keeps people coming is the attention to detail in the cars and tracks as well as actual handling characteristics of cars. GT5P is MUCH harder to drive fast than any other GT b/c of the physics. I have the race cars and shit in the game, but I hope/ dont think that GT would get rid of the "normal cars". I have friends that we get in stock s2000's and race nuremburg until we are blue in the face to see who can pull the best lap time. The race cars are fun b/c of how fast they are, but the normal cars are equally as fun bc there is a likely hood that you COULD drive one of those cars.
I think that the more realistic that the GT series gets it will lose some fans, the true motorsport fans will still love the game but when it gets harder and harder to drive the cars people will lose interest. I play with NO aids and its tons of fun b/c it makes you learn lines and car control. Yeah, its just a video game but it still simulates real life and actual handling. GT5P was a real eye opener on accelerating and braking compared to the older ones and then go back to gt4 and you will be driving much faster than you were.

I hope they fix the fwd cars handling from past GT, its so hard to drive a fwd car (fast) on the game. The amount of understeer is very dramatic and you start adding any power and it just kills the tires.
I know the drag racing part of the game needs some touching up if its going to be in the new one, some times are accurate and some are way off.

Most importantly, they fixed the wheels. While driving a car or watching a replay the wheels were paper thin 2d looking and now they look like a real wheel while in game play.

edit: hope they keep the used cars as well, that was a bummer on gt3.
