    Default iPhone2 release date confirmed

June 9 at the Apple WWDC.. so who's getting one? And more importantly, who's getting rid of their current "oh so old" iPhone?

I am hearing the screen will be bigger and of course it will now be 3g, so it will be worth getting if you live in the metro area (3g area) or any other big city

Yes, if you're willing to pay through your nose, get 3G.. seriously, unless the monthly bill is paid in full by a corporate account, I don't see how people can afford to use 3G.

Btw, do you work at an Apple store?

I believe the new one will not still be able to be on company servers, but a few of our customers have found a way around it so that they could get their company's emails on to their iphones.

Another reason why iphones don't get used by companys is that there are no discounts.

Plus the iPhone is no match for the advanced messaging capabilities of BBs and some Symbian devices.

It's more like a lifestyle device for techies, corporate users and the general public. But it isn't really the king in any particular area.

The iPhone has an exclusivity agreement with AT&T (GSM). I'm sure other GSM operators (T-Mob etc.) are itching to get their hands on these. CDMA operators such as Verizon are a long way off...
Apple might just drop a bomb by announcing a CDMA iPhone though.

Im not impressed by 3G enough to sell my current Iphone. It would have to go through a major redesign for me to consider it. Im always around a wifi hot spot anyways.

expect that to happen and for 3g network to be available in more areas as time goes on. I like the speed of 3g phones, but if you're in a city there are enough highspeed hotspots to leech off of. So it is really no reason to give up your current iphone that runs on the edge network just to go 3g, unless you really must have the fastest speed without relying on wifi

I know. But it won't stay that way if the FCC has a say in this "exclusivity" fiasco:

iLove my iPhone. I'm gonna go play with the new ones and see what exactly they change. I'm genuinely curious to know. If they only make it 3g, then I will be sad.. there's other areas where it "misses the mark" imho... mainly the MMS/media/picture messaging, no flash on the camera, and no video recording. I love my phone, but there is a little voice in the back of my head that nags me when someone with a $49.99 phone can whip out their phone and record video of something, and I whip out my $660 iPhone (I bought it when it was OMG NEW!) and can only get pics, and pics that can be blurry as hell if there's not a lot of light. Granted, the iPhone does a ton of stuff that $49.99 phone can't do, I think it would be a shame if the ONLY change apple makes is making iPhone 2 3G.

Fuck stance. Stance is for kids in skinny jeans with Justin Beiber haircuts. You don't need stance when you got swagger.

LOL.. as I mentioned earlier, the iPhone is a great device overall but misses the mark in MANY critical areas. Of course, the full fledged multi touch screen is a novel concept in the U.S. market but unfortunately, it's also the iPhone's weakest link. Power users like me who need to reply to emails and messages find it a tad difficult to indite replies and texts very quickly. For that reason alone, I'm sticking with Sony Ericsson's P line of smartphones.

More than 3G, I'm hoping the next iPhone has a built-in GPS.. GoogleMaps and/or AGPS just don't cut it. And of course, a better freakin camera that records vids would be nice too. The 2MP cam is worse than the 2MP unit in the back of my 2+ year old W810. iPhone2 might be my next personal phone but I don't see it replacing corporate devices anytime down the line. I hope AT&T doesn't **** it up though as they did with the Tilt (Kaiser elsewhere in the world).

I really don't see that happening, b/c that means it would change a lot of markets outside of cellular world also.

but who knows, that would really shake up the market, but I could see the big boys that own the towers raising rates on companies that use their towers.(higher rates for alltel, metro pcs, boost mobile , etc.)

again I highly doubt the Fcc would change it

The Lg Vu kicks the iphone's as.s, watching cable t.v on the go ftmfw and is 100 less than the iphone

I agree they would really have to redo the phone for me to buy another one.

I'm guessing you don't mod your iphone?

You can introduce a program called swirly that enables you to send and recieve picture texts.

also another program called powerhour, which allows you to recored video up to 1hr. You can d/l a free demo, but the creator makes you buy it..it's only like $40-50...a genius app.

If I'm spending $500+ on a mid-range phone, there shouldn't be any need to purchase expensive add-ons. Heck, any damn camera phone on the market can record video, send/receive MMSs and stuff. iPhone1 simply crested the wave of hype and hoopla created by Apple. iPhone2 will really need to show that it's not just a fancy brick.

Super cam drivers are available for any camera-equipped phone these days. However, even the best cam driver cannot significantly improve the quality of pictures taken through a shoddy lens. Apple can't expect to keep getting away with a puny 2MP camera in an active lifestyle device. Heck, SE and Nokia are already charging toward 7MP and optical zoom.
