if you plan on using it ALOT, then go for an LCD. quality wise both are generally good depending on what surface you are projecting onto, but if you want a projector that can play in a lighted room, they are expensive. over time, depending on how much you use it, the projector will require a new bulb and those things are expensive, several hundred dollars. projectors are also more susceptible to burn in.
