Sony takes a shot at the Wii

"In the past, Sony Computer Entertainment America spokesman Dave Karraker has been fairly critical of his gaming rivals at Microsoft. In September, Karraker called Microsoft's decision to release an HD DVD add-on for the Xbox 360 that only plays movies "unfortunate," adding that the company's 1080p update for the system wasn't "full HD."

Two months later, he slammed Microsoft's decision to offer high-definition movies and TV shows for download over Xbox Live as "a disservice to their consumer base" because purchasers of the Xbox 360 Core system would need to buy a hard drive to store the large files.

Now, Karraker has turned his eye toward Nintendo's Wii, telling The New York Times that the system didn't belong in the same category as the PlayStation 3.

"Wii could be considered an impulse buy more than anything else," Karraker was quoted as saying.

The Sony spokesman also told the paper that Sony was selling out shipments of 100,000 PS3s in the US every week, although, "the frenzy we saw at the holidays has subsided a bit."

The article ran today under the headline, "Nintendo's Wii, Radiating Fun, Is Eclipsing Sony Machine." It discussed each machine's relative performance over the recent holiday sales season and noted that PS3 systems have been easier to find on store shelves than the Wii. " Gamespot.com

releasing a badass console with no games is always a bad move. Unless you like madden ps3 is shit. When Gran Turismo comes out for it I may buy one but until then I will continue to play my Wii with FREE sports game. I didnt even know what a Wii was until my buddy got one for x-mas.
I didnt know anyone was comparing the Wii to the other systems, its not that baddest assed graphics and shit, but who cares. I dont have a badass 1080p tv and HD cables and all that shit so my stuff wont support the ps3's capabilities.

the 360 is the BEST SYSTEM out right now, its got games, support, XBOX live, etc.
PS3, they were too cocky, they released a system with NO GAMES and without a $3000 1080P TV , youll never see the full advantage of the PS3.

In 2 years , when those $3000 TVs are $899, then we will All be singing a different tune. But by then maybe the XBOX 780 will be out. who knows.

the Wii is doing so well because like josh said, it isnt about the craziest graphics and fastest processor, its about a $249 system, with good GAMES, it gets back to the route of video gaming which is having fun.

Even on XBOX there are games that are all about graphics but a weak storyline, short game play, etc.

The Wii seems to say "hey we know we arent the best, but we think you can still have fun with us, give us a try " and its working.

PS3, it will be the best system, but i just dont think the market was ready for a $600 system, that requires a baddass TV, and $70 video games.

when metal gear solid 4 comes out, i will pick one up for sure the same day, but until then, ill go play my xbox 360

Right now, I'm played all 3 at some point. I think the Wii has the biggest fun factor; but Gears of War is so damn fun.

sorry buddy, fact is that 1080p tvs (nice ass ones no less) are going for WELL under $2000 so the only place where sony really shot themselves thus far is the no games part. not to mention if tvs were a factor, xbox 360 owners would also suffer if they didn't have a top notch tv to play their games on

I play mine on a TV that when it came out A/V connections were brand new lolololol....and it works just fine with my 360

Look at all their "exclusives", All they've got left are Gran Turismo, Devil May Cry, and Metal Gear.

The last two of which there are MANY MANY rumors going around they may not be exclusive this go around.

I watched something on G4 about Japanese gaming vs. American gaming. It was crazy, they looked around for a whole day trying to find a place that supported the american system and games. Its nuts, in japan they still play the ps2 like its a 360 to us americans. I myself like halo, but thats about the only game I play for x box. I hear gears of war is sweet but I havent played it. The only thing I play for PS2 is Gran turismo and tony hawk. I'm just not really a fan of the x box controllers.

no u misunderstand, sony still has the exclusives to the ACTUAL final fantasy line of games (u know, the ones that go 1,2,3,234324, etc). spinoffs do not count. and just cuz u don't like them doesn't mean there isn't a huge demand for them

haha, i hated the xbox controllers too, even the smaller ones they made and it was mainly due to the fact that it still lacked the 4 shoulder buttons i was used to w/the ps2. however, the 360 controller takes care of that problem

Oh I know there's still a huge demand for them, I just haven't really liked them lately. Once they brought in the sphere grid in FFX, I knew it was going downhill.

The battle system in XII is more like an MMO, and I'm sure some people like it, but I didn't.
