I dont know much about the history of hardcore, back in the day it was stuff like Minor Threat that was characterized by really fast really loud really short songs. Nowadays I consider hardcore more hard rock with screaming instead of singing and a lot of breakdowns, blackmetal is definately metal characterized by lyrics about death, Grim reapers, and high screaching vocals.
Seriously if you want some emo, I'll host up Rites of Spring or Embrace, arguably the very emo albums EVAR! Ian Mackaye from Minor Threat started the emo movement in the late 80s to try to calm down all of the hardcore kids after seeing the violence at shows from the hardcore scene he also helped create. All of these bands today are more just whiny rock bitching about their girlfriends but even that seems to be passing.
