road racing = what old rich guys do for fun. unless youre racing in a televised series where sponsors pay big bucks to get their name on a car, you wont be making any money off it. in fact, some of the faster guys make just enough money to break even at the end of the weekend.
Well first off, all racing should be fun. If your not having fun doing it, then you should find a different sport.

Autocross is a racing competition against the clock to get the best time. For those of you who think autocross is cheap, your crazy. I know people who have autocross budgets bigger then my road racing budget.

Road racing is not just for old guys with money. Renting a ride in road racing is for old rich people. There are TONS of young guys who are racing in many different club and national racing series across the nation. Why do you think SM is so popular? Its because you can get on track and run a whole season for $15k including the car.

Now Pro racing is a different story. What many people dont know, is that most "pro" drivers are paying for to race, not getting paid. This is happening all the way up to the F1 ranks.
