EF Squad 2009 Mountain Run Discussion
Alright, the words "mountain run" have been spoken to me by quite a few of you, so im throwing up this thread so we can get a better idea of when this is gonna go down.
So.. all of you locals, caleb, brad, chris, luke (sorry if i left anyone out), put your input in and let us know when the weather is gonna get warmer, and the roads aren't gonna be covered in gravel anymore

i'm sure it will be by then, i havent been up in awhile but a buddy of mine who rides motorcycles said the last time he was up 60 was clean, 129 had alittle gravel, and 180 was horrible. but i'm sure by mid march it should be fine !

I won't be doing march, but mid march is an awesome time. Bikes aren't out in full force, yet, but there WILL still be a little gravel on the edges. The later in march, the more bikes/less gravel. April has clean roads, but tourists, hikers, and bicycles start to crowd the roads...

Part is 70$. Machine shop can press it in 3days include drop off and pick up. Add 2hours to remove the spindle, 2hours to install in an average typical home-garage setup...

suspension does nothing for experience or keeping a level headi totally understand that and i will hopefully have some suspension by then
the quickest guy i've ever seen in the mountains was Bryan, who has 100% stock suspension.

The soonest I'll be there is our next national holiday (can't even remember when it is...I think Easter) and/or like may or June. Besides, my car's out here on the west coast, now, so I'd be just a ride-along, anyways...unless I build something back home...

alright, well i was always mid pack, and bryan would fly by me, so technically from what i've SEEN, he is the fastest drive up there. you were always way ahead of me from the start of every leg, so i can't comment on how fast you are since i didn't see it

Build in Cali-Car is here, but I'd have to pay for storage and stuff, and I'd probably buy one from here which means I have to deal with Cali emissions and registration and such. Plus I still wouldn't have anything to drive when I got to Ga...
Build in Ga-Car is across the country and I don't trust other people on my car...especially one that will be used for enthusiastic driving. I don't intend to use my short periods of time at home in the garage. I wanna hang with people and crap.
Build an EF-I'd be putting my money into a car that's driven on rare occasion, and would prevent me from 1) building the mustang AND 2) prevent me from purchasing the kit car I wanna build (Factory Five Racing's AC Cobra replica) or building an old classic car.
Build the Mustang-Can't really afford to build the EF if I'm building the Mustang. The SC I plan to get a roush roots-style 5K kit...that's without a tune. I still need to get the suspension, rims, and tires, and I'll probably call it a day with the stang...but by the time that's all done, I'll be close to coming back to Ga, anyways.
Therein lies my problem...and why I haven't done anything, yet...
Bryan is INDEED an awesome driver, and we have yet to get a chance to compete head-2-head. With him and I doing such a competition, it would be unsafe to go at it in the mountains. We're both aggressive and both fast and both can drive well. Do I think I'm faster given the same car and same setup? No. But until him and I get a chance to prove what's up, neither of us can claim the title. I've got all respect and I've never said less about his driving. I think it will be fun when we finally get the day. But yes...he is indeed one of the top two in the mountains (that I've seen/know of...) Not to say no one has improved on their car/driving, but when I was leading the runs, Bryan and I would usually hop out and have a minute to talk before the rest of the crew came trailing in. He truly brought my best ability out in me...because if I didn't bring it out, he definitely would have had me. He kept me on the tire-walls.

Even in march the tourists and sight see'rs tend to be in full force.. my main recommendation would be to make it EARLY in the morning.

you know we're always out in the mornings. any run i ever go on, i set it up for early sunday mornings. that seems to be the best time.
