you can say **** vtec all you want lol, but like jfro said theres absolutely no disadvantage to vtec aside from a very very light rotational mass difference in the cams and LMAs. Its essentially like having a pretty radical race cam for high rpms but still retaining stock vacuum, smoothness in lower rpm. its a win/win

CTR pistons don't work so well in a B18A/B. the compression ratio is too high (~13.1:1). Then there's still the issue of the cam, a cam that would be able to take advantage of a c/r like that will make your car run like **** at low rpm, not to mention will be biased toward a higher rpm range than a stock engine can handle. So now you're looking at new valve springs and balancing the bottom end, and you'll need to address that engine's insufficient oiling, along with replacing the bearings and the rod bolts, and honing, etc. You'd want to port the head and maybe weld the combustion chambers' quelch pads to improve flow and reduce detonation, valve job, maybe new valves. Then if you're doing all of that you'll need new injectors to get enough fuel, and then you're looking at tuning and a steady supply of high octane fuel.

Building a bad-ass all motor beast is neither easy nor cheap.

On another note, simple B16 pistons work well in a B18A/B to raise the c/r to a more reasonable level for a street car, and you won't have to change anything else in the engine. Note that you'll still have to respect a redline in the high 6 range. It would require premium fuel at that point, and you might have to retard the ignition timing a few degrees to avoid detonation.

Anyway, on with my point. Make a reasonable goal, and get there with a reasonable plan. We all have to work within our means.
