    Default Recommended Spring Rates??

What would you guys recommend for springs and spring rates? I know that Koni yellow shocks are the top choice for ef's (generally) but what about springs? what brand? what spring rate?

    what do you use?

it will be on my DD so a super stiff spring is not feasible because it would ride like a covered wagon, but something that provides a fairly good ride and pretty good performance. or if its possible to find some that provide decent ride quality and superb handling and performance that would be preferred. (i know that you cannot have the best of both worlds)

For springs I recommend Ground Controls. When you order them, you can select your own spring rates at no extra cost, and I appreciate that. They're also the only spring company that matches the sleeve to the shocks you have, so GC FTW.

They do have an off-the-shelf rate, which I believe is 350 front, 250 rear. For reference, stock CRX rates are 250/150. I don't know if they're the same for other EFs. I have 400/300 on my car right now, and I think that's about optimum for a street-modified rex. It's not optimum for a car with as much extra weight on the front as mine though. I plan to order GCs and Konis in the spring to replace my Skunk2/Tokico setup, and I'll be ordering rates of 500/400. If you're into autox, you may even want to get rear rates that are higher than the front. I know a guy with a stock CRX Si that is VERY good at autocrossing his car, his rates are 400/650. Koni shocks are good for spring rates up to 600 pounds, more than that and you'll need to send them to Koni for custom valving.

GC coilovers with eibach springs. its really dependent on how u want it to handle. I would run 350-400F/450-500R. Running anything over 600 and they will need to be revalved for the high spring rates (or race konis ). If you are running a front sway then use a higher spring rate in the front. if no front sway then run 100lbs heavier in the front.

The key words are bolded. The above set up ould be pure ****e for a street driven car, especially in Atlanta. The results would be too stiff.

I would recommend two things. First, of you're going to go with Konis, call Koni and tell them what you're doing with the car. They can recommend spring rates and struts that are going to be the best for what/where/how you want to drive. Second, if you're going to get GCs, call Ground Control and tell them the same things that you teold Koni. The two opinions should be fairly close.

no one said u had to run the same spring rates. running 400f/500r is fine. I daily drove the miata with 700 in the front and it was not that bad.

It wasn't the spring rates that drew my original statement. Replacing all the rubber bushings with poly will do more to compromise daily ride quality than the spring rates.

I drove a friend's Miata with essentially a Spec Miata suspension this summer and it wasn't really too stiff, but I think all the bushings in his suspension are still rubber.

But, for a dedicated track/autocross car, your suspension suggestion is spot on.

yeah. keep the rubber bushings for a DD. and if you do change them to poly, dont do them all. if you plan on autocrossing it i would say do them all. it is a night and day difference.
