It wasn't the spring rates that drew my original statement. Replacing all the rubber bushings with poly will do more to compromise daily ride quality than the spring rates.

I drove a friend's Miata with essentially a Spec Miata suspension this summer and it wasn't really too stiff, but I think all the bushings in his suspension are still rubber.

But, for a dedicated track/autocross car, your suspension suggestion is spot on.
