Mines coming along fairly quick now. It seem like I'll be done first (or second depending on how much time Halfwit has to get done) out of the remainding Rex's. So hold your horses!Quote:

lol shit man i love my car. its a damn go-kart and gets great gas mileage. im lookin for around $2k. but I seriously DOUBT ill get that. im still havin that starting problem. sometimes, usually after its been driven, ill go inside somewhere and then come out and try to start the car and itll turn over but not fire. its been doing this since i got it. if i keep messing with it itll crank up but it takes some persuasion. i just put a new dist. on it so thats not the problem, not the plugs, wires that stuff. i think its either the fuel pump or computer or a combination of those 2(or some other electrical thing). but thats the ONLY mechanical problem. if anyone wants to check it out or wants more info just let me knowQuote:

As are the old school do that! Just keep you Rex since that sounds like a project wouldnt you need a dd? I got a 71 impala that I'm restoring (after I'm done with the Rex). It has a 454 (hehe) in it. I would never part with my rex (even to finish that project).

Replace the tensioner too while your at it and all your problems should be solved
Tensioner's like 60 (AcuraAutomotiveparts.org) And can a tensioner REALLY go bad? Wher eon it goes bad?
40$ at autozone... (assuming what they refer to as the "belt idler pulley" being the belt tensioner)
Man if I wasn't in love LOL and my job I would come out and help you with it plus help D and Scotsman with their swaps
I'd help out if I wasn't up at NGCSU going to school...

Stay away from Autozone or Advance Auto trust me LOL just try a junkyard first before going to one of those places, but if your timing belt keeps jumping off time it has to be the tensioner IMO I could be wrong.Quote:

Well, the belt never lined up PERFECTLY on the cams anyways (according to their timing marks). The cams always had to be just slightly turned to get the teeth to line up, which is PROBABLY why I couldn't get the timing to stay right in the first place. Positive it's jumping timing, though. My guess is in addition to a stretched (and stretching) belt, I didn't have the belt tensioner bolt tight enough...
All will be answered with this weekend experiment. I just gotta baby it cuz I've got about 50 miles to drive with that belt to make it home...cross fingers it doesn't go...
This is a slack ass cell phone pic, but it will do!
Yup, already looking for a replacement. But that spring doesn't do anything once that bolt is tightened down...it only helps to put a little tension on the tensioner until you get the bolt tight...Quote:

To summarize, it WAS tight to begin with...and loosened on my way up here. However, that doesn't fully lead us to the tensioner being bad because I parked it over night and started it up the next day...make note, it was very cold. The car ran like a dream for about 10 minutes until the car started getting warmed up.
Theory: The belt is stretching out. When it's cold, the rubber condenses and pulls the belt tight. When the engine warms up, the rubber warms up, and is then stretching...allowing it to be out of time, and jump teeth...
Wow...invest, bro.Quote:

And I'm not sure if the bolt wasn't tight enough. I'm only guessing it was too loose...
Either way, I shoulda saved myself the trouble and just replaced the damn timing belt when I first did the swap and the engine was out of the car...oh well, live and learn. I've got a picker, so it won't be that hard...
