toothpaste works on glass headlights, the sand and buff method is best for plastic lenses
I'd recommend the 3M Headlight Restoration Kit if you're just going to perform this on a single set of headlights. If you're going to restore a couple of headlights, then go ahead and purchase Wet/Dry sandpaper grits: 500, 800, 1000, 1500, 2000, and Meguiar's unigrit3000 (if you want a unique clarity). 5 minutes with each grit using a side to side motion allowing the sandpaper to do the work, which means, don't apply too much pressure. Be firm, but do not press hard.
Just remember the four step process:
1. Clean
2. Sand
3. Polish/Buff
4. Seal to endure any further oxidation
man try this out i used it on my car BIG diff man made my lens look brand new they even have a video showing u excatly how to use the kit http://www.myheadlight.com/
bought a lens cleaning kit at the auto parts store, used it on my 98 es300 and it did a decent job
Just tint them yellow............................................ .jk. I used the toothpaste method on my integra and it worked fine. Till it dried and had to put a coat of polish on it.
If the haze is inside, to break the lens form the housing, put them in the oven( entire headlamp assy.) on 250 for 6 to 8 min. take it out and pull them apart.
90% of the sealents used for headlights are heat activated so to put back together, just do the reverse of taking them apart
lol no shit any wal-mart dose headlight restores for 40 bucks our you can buy the kit they use on the shelf for 20 comes with two types of sand paper and clear coat and has a lifetime warranty
if your lazy, like me, then use some plastic-x and alot of elbow grease.
when i hear "JDM" i think about 1998 and FF SQUAD. the originators
BABIES "R" US crew
Toothpaste is just an abrasive, no different than a mild rubbing compound.
I've been wet sanding then using compound, polish, and wax on headlights for 10 years. Sometimes only metal polish is needed and the stuff I use has a silicone sealant mixed in. I don't know why I didn't come up with the headlight restoration kits years ago lol!
for 10.00 at advance auto parts you can get turtle wax headlight restorer kit,it comes with compound pads, lubricant and sealant.
i should have done before and after shots of mine . but they came out amazingly clean, they were completly caked with rot and faded yellow and scratched. now they look like new and for 10.00 and all done by hand both lights in about an hour.
i highly reccomend this kit for headlight restoration its 100% perfect and simple to do.
yes i am....
I've used tooth paste on my headlights before and it doesn't work.
The plastic used on modern headlights is Polycarbonate. So all you gotta do is sand the headlight with a real hi-grit sandpaper (like 2000-2500) and spray it with a UV resistant acrylic sealer.
If you want your headlights looking brand new, open the lights up and sand on both sides then coat it with the sealer. You can fix even the most fucked of headlights like that.
