Semi old write up, but I figured I'd post it anyways..
So, lets face it, EVERYONE hates a primered car, and also, not everyone can afford to drop a couple grand on a paint job. I know I can't, so I spent some time with my friends doing some research on how to paint cars and decided to paint my car with rattle cans(hold your tongue before you flame).
Supplies needed:
-2 tacky clothes ($3)
-2 scotch bright pads ($5)
-Your choice of paint. I used "True Blue" from Krylon w/ the new style cans. The new style of cans run about 4 bucks at walmart and they have a fan tip on them so you can spray up and down so it spreads evenly, and not in a circle.
1. Wash the car, dry it off good, and tape it off.
2. Sand down the car with the scotch bright pad and then DONT TOUCH IT. decide where youre going to start painting first and go over it with a tacky cloth. This will help pull all the dust/grease off the car so nothing will be under the paint. (no pics)
3. Start painting.
I painted my roof black to match all the black on the windows.
I also pulled off my grille and rear center garnish and painted them black.
Then, I painted the car.
4. Let it sit in the sun and bake a little to help set the paint/de-tape.
5. Put it back together, if you pulled off anything. Use a hose pipe WITHOUT pressure and rinse off the car to get all the paint dust and stuff like that off.
6. Enjoy.
IMHO it looks 868798 times better, and its not primer anymore, so if you're one that just wants to get rid of primer, and your not big on paint then this is a good idea for you. In all I paid about $35 for everything and had about half a can left over. The car HAS NOT been buffed/clear coated..ever. Pics over been over the last 8 months its been done.driffftooo away and not worry about killing your 2k paint job.
