Default PIcking a vehicle to use...

this whole drifitng scene has grown on me alot. i thought it was one of those things that comes and goes, but it is getting bigger and bigger, and looks more interesting to me. So my question is if i were to purchase a vehicle to setup for competition what would it HAVE to be other than RWD. I have a vision of using a older sedan chassis, like a 88-90 929, or even a cressida. even tho its alot heavier than the others. would it be worth while? or a waste?

do whatever you like... the only thing that i suggest is you make sure there is some kind of decent suspension upgrades for any car you want to use. that is the one and only thing that is a dire need. i know of a few people using cressidas and although a little hard to find parts for the stuff is out there. the car's variant in japan is very popular.

keep in mind that for actual COMPETITION in D1GP and FormulaD, guidelines require the car to be RWD. Not necessarily RWD from factory, but it must be a RWD car.

any RX7 will need more wheel angle.
I suggest JIC or TEIN tie rods.

Yea, but sometimes the rear tires can lock up. So be careful.

my only suggestion would be to not get an AE86 Corolla. They're like kinda like Nicole Kidman... cute and harmless looking on the inside, then a total fucking trash/ money pit on the inside.

    Kapil you pooper.

AE's are fine, but keep in mind they're a lot older. I got screwed hard from behind when I purchased mine, so do a lot of research before you purchase one. It's not that they're bad cars, but being that they're about 20 years old, a lot of stuff is ready to break after some hard driving.

Or just learn how to 4-wheel-drift.

Just about any RWD car/truck. If you skill up power becomes lesser of an issue. (240hp+ is a start) Get ANY RWD and find a wideopen, preferably dirt field. Setup different corners and get sideways.

A cressida would be pretty much a total waste. Although there are some who have built cressidas the chassis really isnt mean to handle that kind of power. The axles are known to snap pretty easily with anything over the stock horsepower.

The later gen(i believe 89-92) came with the 7mge which is the na 86-92 supra motor. Unfortunately it only came with an automatic transmission. The 7mgte(turbo mk3 supra motor) and tranny are a considerably easy swap as it bolts in.

The gen before that(mx73 84-88 i think) came with the 5mge... they are all within the same family so the 7mgte is a direct bolt in as well. You will also need to ditch the stock tranny for an r154 or W58.

Neither of the cars are really competitive without some major modification or engine swaps.

So really... unless you have some mega money and time... not worth it.

I might look into the mk2 supra(83-86)... the engine really isnt stout there either but the car is known to handle better than some of its younger brothers(newer Supras)
