Sunbelt was an excellent choice! Justin and I were going to build a 250whp QR with some very simple off the shelf parts now avail.

    1. B16 fully counterweighted OEM crank with revised crank signal
    2. QR20 high comp OEM JDM pistons
    3. Ported Head
    4. Rogue CVT Intake (we already have the spacer fabbed to bolt this to a QR head)
    5. JWT 260 cams for the QR. These are still not released to the public yet.
    6. B16 rods

On paper, this motor would make a ton of hp, and spin close to 7200, up from the 6400 stock limit.

We'll build one this year, but the VQ35 was a stopgap till the Hybrid QR is running. BTW, anyone who wants to bolt the Rogue intake to the QR can do it now with our spacers/adapters. We're thinking 8-11whp with this - to be tested.
I wouldn't say that he is a dbag, as much as a horrible businessman. You can't use money from a new customer to fund a previous customers project... bc when you get that one out the door you have no funds for the current one. You literally have to wait until you get ANOTHER new customers money to finish it. That's what I saw with him - he was a mechanic - but a horrible businessman - he also didn't have the funds on hand to be running a business. He spent too much time defending himself on the boards when he should have been turining wrenches.

Also - at that time there was no1 really supporting the chassis --- so guys were hungry to get something going. I think you'll def be happier w/ the hybrid QR over the VQ. I raped the Powertech turbo guys anywhere in the powerband - that is the car that I wish I never sold. I always envision grabbing another Spec V and doing another N/A QR. Building it to 250hp and making it hold up is a bit easier now that the chassis has more of a following - when I did it I was breaking new(er) ground (as far as street cars are concerned).

Here are a few emails from Jim that I kept that may help when you get the QR on the engine stand. You're really making me wanna grab another 1 and drag it home. I think the Spec V (03+, or 02 w/ 03+ tranny) is one of the most underrated cars out there... I think b/c it's a sedan a lot of the tuners overlook it. Also the wheelbase being short got a lot of guys in trouble --- by the time they felt it rotate it was too late - it was coming around regardless. LOL. You have to stay on top of things when you only got 99 in wheelbase. I'd do it again in a heartbeat though.

Hi J'son, I think a turbo engine would run a little less money for the engine part of the project. There isn't the need for the head work that this motor has, but I would build up the bottom end the exact same way. On the other hand the installation of a turbo system in the car is far more expensive and more difficult. These guys with the turbo systems will find that the QR will have head gasket problems as well as general overheating conditions. I drove one of the race cars with my engine in it and it felt a lot like a turbo car. The cams come on so strong @ 3500 rpm!...and the motor pulled hard to 7500 rpm. FYI the stock rods break around 220 HP, the oil pump has to be modified and the valve springs have to be changed to run higher than 6500 rpm. To answer your other question about the t-body, we will make bigger ones, but it requires porting of the flange. I do think it will increase power if the car has headers and a good exhaust.

    Thanks, Jim

The Realtime Racing guys are rebuilding the engines at about half way through the season. You got to understand though the engine is at maximum stress 90% of the time. In road racing, those guys drive the car and the engine like they stole it and are wanted for murder. It's almost like they are trying to break the motor. I really feel the bottom end we built is bullet proof for the street and I think it easily could be a daily driver. As long as you keep oil in the motor and don't overheat it should last as long or longer than any stock QR. If you road raced a stock QR it may not last long. As far as something different...no one has a 250 HP N/A QR motor!!

We have an in house CNC and I will get with my machinist today and get some prices for you soon.

    Thanks, Jim

You should drop by one day, I've got a lift in the back of the property and Justin and I are usually in their working on something with the QR. Justin created the Treadstone turbo kit and its been on his car for 40K miles with no internal mods. I think he makes 260whp at 5psi?

There are so many options now with the QR20 and B16 QR that lends itself to a great motor build. The RTR guys kept breaking b/c of the vibrations that the B16 crank now eliminates most of it. The real problem is the rod stress with these motors.

The car is fast for what it is, and very consistent, which is just as important.

The car is getting a VQ motor for next season while the details on a QR motor get worked out. Nasa rules say a motor has to remain with in 1" of the stock location, but since the VQ isn't stock and doesn't have a stock location, it might end up lower in the chassis.

The car will usually lay down lap times w/ the TTB-TTA class cars as it sits in TTE w/ all of 180hp, and 2 blown shocks. Out in Utah we were 2 seconds ahead of our class. 2 secs on a 2.2mile track is huge.

The car is just going to get quicker and quicker, the center of gravity is going to get lower and lower, and I'm going to keep tweaking away.

I've got my eyes out for a B14 200sx I can drop a QR in for myself.

If I can talk Joe into it the car may make its way out to Import Face Off even though it's not a drag car.

a lot has changed. Nissan revised a lot of the parts going in the motors. The factory rods are stout now, the 2007 motors run 10.5:1 CR, mill the the head 1mm for 11.5:1. JDM QR20 pistons make 12.4:1 CR and JWT finally released some big 280 duration .500+ lift cams. There is a new fully balanced 8 counter weight factory crank now too. If you stuck with mainly OEM parts you could build a high comp NA motor for $2-3k.

WOW - I need to get back into the B15 scene and see what every1 is playing with now. Every1 said I was "crazy" back then and that I should stick w/ the turbo kits. Haha

99% of the people in the b15 sceene are still retarded, but there is a laptop based ECU reflash/tuning now, lots of improved parts, stuff I've worked on, etc.

If you want to do it chances are it's out there, or can be found.

Kool - I had the MOTEC w/ignition expander - that alone drove up the costs of my build. I'll be on the lookout for an 03+ Spec. Has to be the perfect car at the perfect time. I assume this re-flash is a piggy-back.

It flashes to the factory ECU through the OBD port, but only on the 04+ ecus. Pretty much like Hondata, ECUtec, OpenECU, HP Tuners. Tuner Version is like $700, full ECU control of all parameters, can disable check engine light criteria, scale for injectors, set revlimits, timing maps, fuel maps, throttle by wire, etc. OR you can get a license from a certified tuner (Z1 or Forged) and have them tune it too.

You could find a sub $1,000 200sx or b13 and get creative w/ 230-240hp in a 2300lb car with actual Tq, that's an all motor monster, you strip the car down to 2000lbs, nasty. I've got access to Joe's shop if you're interested, but we've got our 2 Sentra race cars under the knife right now. Just something to think about.

Ha ha... grabbed this from IA last year. Drove it for a month and then parked it. No immediate plans but the chassis has has 200k, motor has 150k and pulls HARD AND STRONG. (ask JDMJAYDC2 what happened on the way back from picking it up - LOL. PWNED)

I have a 04 SpecV tranny if you find a 02-03 SER. There are a couple 02s for $3K. And if you need brakes, the wilwood set up is far and away better than the Brembos. The pads are $40 for comp sets and the rotors are 2piece, $17 each.

    ...

Hey Tray! Good to hear from you, hope we can get up soon and get a drink.

    Congrats Joe!

Funny I use to see this little Sentra at Barber and what not and now it has it's National Championship. I'm going to have to credit the driver, and the competition for this win, as I did a private track day at Talladega with Joe and the Sentra was very well set up w/ a driver that knew how momentum cars work

98 M3, was pretty stock then. Shocks, springs, intake, exhaust, flywheel. My front right was about 60% belts by the time we ran though. Car did 1:08's on R comps with cams and some descent pads, not bad for 3300lbs. New set-up should destroy that time, at least my fingers are crossed
