    Default 3/09 track weekend video

just some raw footage of the final session of the weekend with the combined A and B groups. other than the amazing amount of traffic to work through it was a lot of fun. this was my third trackday, all 3 being at road atlanta and with the BMW club. i'm hoping to branch out this year and maybe try to hit some time attack and other HPDE's, but i still plan on hitting road atlanta at least once more this year

I'm still amazed by how many times you have to shift at RA.

I liked your onboard video better but this ones good too

Have you any plans in the future for Barber or VIR?

i was actually MUCH faster this time so i had to throw in another up/down shift into the mix . out of 10 then up to 5th under the bridge, back to 4th under braking at the end of the front straight. scared my instructor so bad he signed me off solo after one session.

the black 05 GT in the video is a friend of mine who drifts/does trackdays in his mustang. with very basic suspension/power mods it's a pretty capable car, i drove it at a drift event and immediately felt comfortable with it.

i still like the drag strip from time to time, but running a fast pace around road atlanta for 20 minutes at a time just does a lot more for me. doing 155mph down the back straight is a lot faster than i can go in a quarter mile anyway

Yeah, road course > drag strip.

    (personal opinion)

That's the first BMW CCA spring D.E i've missed in 3 years. I am so depressed, I would've been running with you in A, but I wouldn't be doing 155 on the back straight..haha.

they don't allow timing since it's a DE, their event insurance does not allow it. a friend timed me on his watch in heavy traffic and i ran around 1:43, which is about what i was running at the last event with a pretty clear track. last time i just timed my laps by in car video but i didn't take any this time around.

it was a friend's wife filming. it's kind of hard to film freehand with it zoomed all the way in without some good shaking.

1:43 isn't bad for a street car, but with a little clearer track i had to be into the mid-high 1:30's somewhere. i ran a 1:42 last year on a clear track moving slower on pretty much every part of the track.

i picked up a subaru GC shell i wanted to build since i'm semi-tired of looking at the seas of 240's found all over the place, but this thing was just too damn good out there to switch just for the sake of switching. plus when i'm at the track, i'm the only one there . i'm going to pick up another shell soon and build a proper cage and such, my chassis is still bent in by about and inch on the front left strut tower from my crash at lanier speedway. i'll freshen a lot of things up in the process so everything will feel new. it'll be lighter/stiffer and more powerful than before when it's all said and done, maybe even work on some aero.

I will try but probably not, I really like doing the Chin events much more so I can take all my friends for rides. I'm in school at LSU so it's harder for me to do all the R.A events. It works out though, I have same family friends down here who let me drive their race cars and I did an event at Road America in the fall instead of Road Atlanta which made me .

That looked like Jenkins chasing you, was it not?

SCCA/ NASA memberships are the easiest ways to do R.A. and other local tracks.

    Sorry.

What i meant was typically some organziation or car club will rent the track for a day. You sign on with them for around $200-$500 dollars for a weekend and attend.

You would first find out whos doing what dates, and get your name on the list.

Check the sticky thread with the different bodies. You should be able to find one on there.

go to the skip barber link, thats the closest thing to a RA sponsored track day they have now. You are better off doing something like Porsche club or NASA. SCCA only holds PDXs and IMO its not worth it. If you actually want to race, then SCCA is your best bet but you have to get your liscense through a racing school.

SCCA PDX is only $100 and well worth it, especially for a quick fix for track time or a first timer.

BMWCCA and Chin run the best track days IMO.

BTW THERE IS A STICKY AT THE TOP OF THIS SECTION WITH ALL YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED, AREN'T YOU A MOD? lolol
