So last night I took my car up to commerce just for the hell of it.....needless to say i had a blast! Only made 2 passes but i felt like a kid it was a really good time and it was legal!

Ok so i know my car is slow but here is my question....Based on these timeslips what do ya'll think my car is capable of on slicks assuming it doesnt spin at all! I wanna pick up some light wheels and drag slicks sometime....Also wondering if i'm going to break axles and such.....haha I've heard of people running <11 on stock axles!

Right now i am launching at 3000+/- a few and im spinning 1st and 2nd pretty bad!

I would say maybe a 15.2 @ around 92 or so... Looks like your car has a little more top end then it does down low.

I say possibly in the low 15's with slicks. But you need to work on you 60ft, that's whats killing you right now.. Learn how to preload the clutch, your launching way to low to my taste. And with slicks, you will reduce the chance of breaking axles by preloading.

Let the clutch out slowly till the car starts to lurch forward, HOLD THE LEFT LEG THERE. Don't push in or let out, use the gas to stage the car holding back with the e-brake. Then stage rip the e-brake, bring your rpms up, when the 3rd yellow comes down let the e-brake down, and clutch out. Don't side step, just slip the clutch off.

^^^ what he said. Also, when you do a 5k launch, DO NOT JUST DUMP THE CLUTCH... or you will have BIGGER problems on your hands. lol. Also, for the interior stripping. Remember this for the most part, every 100 pounds of weight reduction is about .1 off your ET.

It sounds difficult but really in simple terms its just slipping the clutch with the e-brake holding the car. Thats it. When I was racing my buddies type r at ifo, I was launching it a 7k. On street tires...

I will! Yeah going to the track is fun and it just feels cooler than goofing off on the street! not to say i dont ever enjoy as twisty mountain road but there are too many idiots on the street! I've found that the guys who actually go to the track are more respectable and more helpful for the most part!

Cant wait for the auto-x tomorrow! : )

let off some of that throttle when your in first gear yo then you'll be able to get that 2.5/6 60ft down to a 2.2/3....and you'll probably be somewhere in 15.4/5

btw what brand/kind/specs of tires you got??

why would you wanna tear into a perfectly fine car just to run 14s? not worth it.

the launch is the hardest part, and why everone on the street likes to roll race. trying to launch at maximum rpm/slipping clutch with minimal tire spin. google 'shallow staging'

with enough practice you will get it and rape fast cars with bad drivers. good luck.

Those 60's are horrendous, but you learn with time. Seems like your just holding it at 3,000 and dumping it, try slipping it out instead to try to have less wheelspin. Rule of thumb is every 1 tenth in the 60' is good for 2 tenths in the quarter. Get those 60's down to a 2.0-2.2 and you'll improve .8-1.2 in the big end theoretically. When you get your slicks take your time and do some testing on the best RPM launch, you want just the slightest wheelspin then a hook. I'd say your looking at a low 15, maybe high 14.

    1) DO NOT GET IN THE WATER BOX WITH A FWD ON STREET TIRES. It's not going to help you, will actually hurt you because the oil in the rubber will heat up and come to the surface. It will be slower. Plus you're ruining it for every body else by dragging water to the line with your rear tires.

    2) Kill the negative camber. You want it as close to zero (0) as possible. The more camber you have the less contact patch.

    3) SLIP IT. If you have a quality aftermarket clutch than you can launch at 3k or you can launch at 6k, it doesn't matter. Adjust the wheels spin with clutch control and a steady throttle. The ideal way is a lower RPM launch and barely turn the tires over...slightly bogging down off the line is quicker than spinning.

    4) Quality springs with matched shocks or coil-overs will help prevent wheel hop. As will slipping the clutch and not spinning the tires. Then you start getting into traction bars but with street tires don't bother.

    5) LSD. Forget the slicks if you're not running an LSD. Nobody wants to see a one tire fire in the water box.

I have a method for launching FWD's that's netted me sub 2 second 60' times on street tires. Take it or leave it.

Consistently I was 1.3 seconds within a hundredth every time on my bike with a 190 street tire...lifting the front wheel off the ground no more than an inch, maybe 2", through 1st gear.
