bump for d series, dont die out now
Updated! I'm gonna go for it no matter what! My goal is somewhere around 350 i won't be upset if i only get 300 but i I wont be truly happy without 350 lol and as far as the head goes I got that covered ;)
thinkin bout buildin my d15b
G/L with the build
apparently, most of you guys don't know shit about D-series.
1. The Vitara piston is by far the strongest piston out there for those engines. And it IS an after market piston, made in Japan. Just for comparision, it's ringlands are with ~ 1mm bigger than those on a good Wiseco piston. Not to mension the cup on the piston that concentrates the explosion in the middle, and the coated top that comes standard .. Those pistons would hold up to 500 WHP on a D .. just give it 6 months to an year, and you'll see the era of the 500WHP Ds .. lol
2. ported head is nice thing to have, but the sock one will be fine for 350WHP, even with the stock intake manifold ... no matter of how hard it seems to believe .. That guy that you refer to, fast2cam, did his 405WHP on a stock head with the stock intake manifold. He sold his car like a month ago. FJK's car has 417WHP, but he uses Zex cam on his setup.
3. Anything over 350WHP can destroy the stock tranny .. most break on 4th gear pulls. Axels hold upon proper launching.
4. With the eagle rods, depending on which ARP bolts are used (5/16 vs. 3.8), the engine would be able to rev up to 8K, if not 8.5K. Higher than that is not recommended (eventhough it's being done)
5. Powerband in most cases with a 400WHP D is like 1 - 1.5K up top. That however doesn't mean that the car is slow at 5K for example, when it still builds boost.
5. It is not recommended any bigger exhaust housing than the .63 A/R, which by far works best.
6. D-series FTW :D
:goodjob: ^^ You sir seem to have done your D-Series HomeWork.. good info man..
I had a friend with a build sohc and a jackson racing supercharger running 14psi,and no bottle....It ran 12.49 at the track ,all day long(1/4 mile),but the supercharger had alot of work done to it,alot!!!!(porting, etc) :D good luck
Thats some good shit man! +1 for yaQuote:

anyways, get that thing running and you'll spank some turbo Bs :D
Um, Halfwit you have one more guy to worry/deal with here..........ME! Ask Mike at Mainstream my name is Gregg. I drive a 92 VX white hatch(2020lbs...right now, still have 50lbs to take off) with a D16Z6 and in just 12 short weeks I'm sure I should(should being the key word here) be making between 430-450whp on SOHC VTEC BUILD. I will be #1 for Single cam-T build here and I will meet you at the track or on the street or my personal favorite.......the highway.......Stay Tunned for my thread. Back to you Mike :D
^^^Damn this D-series thing is gettin serious.. I might have to get down with the D-Series build..

I had a D16Z6 turbo in my old 93 coupe. Only had ARP headstuds, all other stuff was OEM. Ran 13.2@105 with a slipping oem clutch. GL with the build!
Yes yes join us. get rid of the B and go with the D!Quote:

when most guys realize how expensive it is when they break a B-series engine, most UPGRADE to a D-series ... :D . It is so cheap to build a fast D ...
here's some tips:
- use Z6 head on whatever D-block you find - easy to tune.
- use OEM headgasket, as well as ARP headstuds (mandatory)
- don't use block guard. If not, then pick the Golden Eagle one
- the Y8 tranny is said to be better than a Z6 one, but both are about same good
- look at least into ACT XTSS pressure plate , and 6-puk disk (with or without springs). Ds mostly make like 320WTQ, and that's like 420WHP
- run stock axles (cheap fuse before you break the tranny) - from NAPA, life warranty
- port out the holes on the rod bearings for more lubrication
- use Z6 oil pump (or an aftermarket one), with or without the mods to it, according to .theoldone.com
- new radiator is mandatory for GA
- NGK BKR7e-11 are good spark plugs, gap as follows: 0.035 for up to ~12psi, 0.03 for up to ~20psi, 0.028 to 0.025 for higher boost

Its always interesting to read these. Since I've never taken an engine apart and put it back together, I'm considering getting a cheap D series of some sort to play around with. I like 96-00 Civics, so I might be able to use it one day.
