The McLaren F1 roadcar started life in 1994. By the end of the year, McLaren had been convinced to build racecars for wealthy customers who wanted to bring their McLarens to competition. At its first 24h of Le Mans showing in 1995, customer F1 GTRs finished 1-3-4-5-13 (and 1-2-3-4 in the GT category). A spectacular and crushing debut for the F1.
To celebrate the five finishing cars, McLaren Cars Ltd commissioned a run of five "LM" models (plus one prototype) for road use. The LM model would share the 6.1-liter engine (minus the racecar's inlet restrictors), gearbox components, aerodynamic package, and interior with the racer. However, the LM kept its 3-seat layout like the roadcar. Very litte was shared with the roadcar save for brakes, gas tank, and a few interior bits. Of the five LMs, three were finished in "Historic McLaren Orange" as a throwback to the company's history of sportscar success. Many people consider the McLaren F1 LM to be the world's ultimate roadcar. This is LM03
