    Default From pink to red

here are some pics of my weekend project, I'm exhuasted and still not done. The project was changing my cousins 94 prelude from milano pink to milano red. paint was $208 one gallon ready to spray (2 quarts paint 2 quarts reducer) $50 for gallon of clear $50 for quart of catalyst, and lets say another $100 or so for random shit and supplies. I started yesterday morning about 10am and finished about 12:30 last night spraying the basecoat. probably sprayed 4-5 coats of base. and today sprayed about 4 coats of clear.

Nice job doing it yourself! What's up with the hood? Is it a diff color or is the light hitting it wrong in the 3-4 different pics of it?

the last few pics are w/ the clear. i still need to wetsand w/ 1500 and 2000 and compound and polish the car which i will do next weekend since i dont have enough time this weekend, i have to work all week.

I'm just afraid of the sanding marks not coming out...when i did matts car i compounded w/ a light cut compound and should really have used a heavier cut compound but they dont recommend it w/ my porter cable DA polisher, you are suppose to use the heavy compound w/ a rotary buffer. I have never used a rotary polisher before. anyone have one i can borrow next weekend w/ experiece and come supervise to make sure i dont fuck up the new paint?

i think by saturday it should be cured up pretty good...we are gonna wetsand it pretty good to get most of the orange peel out and a few drips, then i think im gonna give it a shot w/ my porter cable DA polisher w/ a wool pad and some perfect it compound, then after that gonna use meguiars light cut compound on a foam compound pad, then glaze it followed by some caranuba to seal it up.

you do need a rotary polisher to get all the sand scratches out....i have never tried using a DA though. If you do get your hands on a rotary, be very careful. Tape up your edges and go slow. The compound you use really doesnt make a difference, its the pad. Most compounds say it will cover up 1200+ scratches with a heavy cutting pad...and 1500+ with a medium or light cutting pad. I would come over and let you borrow mine but im am only in town for 2 days a week and i am busy as hell. But when you wetsand, use a block or else it will look wavy. If you have any more questions send me a pm.

well i recently wetsanded my sister's 00 civic because it had a lot of overspray or something on the hood when she got it and i used some rubbing compound and a wool cutting pad on my DA polisher, then followed up by a light cut compound and a light cut foam pad, then finally w/ some #7 glaze and it seemed to take out all of the scratches... I will PM you for some info

man that's really nice, i've really wanted to learn to paint. I painted my sister's 2001 taurus after she crashed it, but it wasn't professional like that. Great work.

since we on painting, a guy came through the drive through of where i work and had a fresh coat of paint on his car, i could tell because i could see the brush strokes in the paint.at least he went the same way with each stroke.

lol true yeah the painting part is easy, the sanding is what kills you, especially in 95 degree heat. i still havent wet sanded and buffed the car yet, my cousins clutch fucked up and im gonna have to go to his house tomorrow and bleed the clutch so we can drive it back over here and buff it.
