Default HEAD work PICS ! B18C5 heAD

well the bad news was that i blew the shit outta a head gasket bout a week and a half ago. well we pulled the head the 2 and 3 cylinders was fukin full off water lol so things seem to be lookin far far worse then i expected. so i me and my friend zach (slowesthatch ) went up to his work (machine shop) and checked everything out. first we pressure tested it to make sure that there were no cracks anywhere. no craqs. then we went and set the head on a the table and basically checked to see if there was any warpage of the head. bad news fraid lol. it slightly warped the bottom of the head just enough to let coolant through. but long story short it was caused by two things no temp guage, and a bad rad cap. so we resurfaced it 3 times equals bout .06 off the head. which wasnt much but it raised the compression (along with a thinner stock head gasket , previous owner had a thick ass cometic (stock .026 - cometic .04))

and he had some fun with the head while we were there ..... check it out

Did you clay test it to check the valve clearance? Shouldn't make that much differance but just wondering why the cosmetic gasket would be on there before.

yea the original owner was gonna spray the shit outta it. so he had a thick ass head gasket. comp stg 2 cams. and we didnt check the valve cleareance , since the pistons arent too high of compression (11.1) it was a very small chance of that happening. i was worried tho cuz it had been resurfaced before i took .06 off it. but now its got like 11.5 comp with the thinner had gasket and the closer combustion chambers. but the orginal owner built the engine special for nos. nos to me isnt fun. Na or boost. this is gonna have a new short block soon and im gonna sell the shortblock that is in the car now and the cable Ls tranny for that matter too. Also if any one on the south side needs some headwork done for the low low pm me. the same guy that did mine will be doing yours.

11.1 compression piston's but if the head has been resurfaced a few times that's not really going to matter...i'm just wondering if he resurfaced it and put in the comp cam's then needed to add the extra head gasket for clearance...then you reresurface it and take off the extra head gasket...have you manually turned it over with the valvetrain on just to listen to it?

we manually turned it over seeing as how we left the block in the car and time was limited.he specifically put the cometic on to compensate for the weakness of the oem issue gsr head gasket. he said when he was building it he was checking clearance's and had bought a oem gsr headgasket and had intentions of putting it on but decided to buy the cometic to take the heat of the nos. my buddy " specialist" got a lotta bitchin from me to make sure i wasnt gonna have some bent valves. so he checked height of the combustion chambers , and compared them to stock b16 (same basic head) wasnt that much of a difference my only worry was water-e oil making the bottem seaze up. but didnt seem to happen. im gonna change the oil one more time to make sure there is no more coa-coa milkshakerrrrrrr

If it's close to the b16 it may be ok but I wonder if the slightly more aggresive cam's will effect it much. There's only two ways to find out...clay test it or crank her up
