Default SilverJester GSX Photoshoot (Pics Added...)

Ok, these are going to be coming one at a time because I'm take a lot of time to make sure they look perfect. Here's the first one, and probably one of the best pictures I've ever taken. More will be coming as I resize and edit them. (More pics added on page 3...)

But he had to have manipulated the camera in some kind of way b/c if i took that pic with my camera it would never come out like that

Its probably the type of camera you are using then or you dont know how to use it to its potential. Hes using a DSLR. Not trying to be an ass, but its as simple as that.

It can be done with the white balance on the camera. If he left it set to AWB than it will meter for the headlights but not the streetlights, the temperature of the lights will show up red unless corrected. That is why the one shot where he is above the car it is toned down to almost a soft red because the camera tried to meter for the street lights but instead got the lights off of the car aiming at the GS-X.

And Nemesis is correct, it is a different ballgame when you step to a DSLR.

I was shooting with a kodak z740 (pics were not posted because, well they sucked). A camera I just got for Christmas. But I used to have a canon G2 (pretty much any pics you've seen of mine except the varsiy ones I took) were done with the G2. I was looking into a G5 but just read about the Pro1 and have fallen in love...I'm pretty sure I'm gonna trade up for one of those.

thats cool man but you have to remember that you changed to a different platform so it has a bit of a learning curve. I am still trying to learn this 350D I got but once I learn it then I can take a lot better pics.

Yeah but the kodak is just not up to par. The manual controls are very limited (i.e. the longest shutter speed I can set is 8sec). It's full of "easy share" junk that I neither want nor need. The canon's that I'm looking into are far better cameras. Plus as you mentioned, there will be less of a learning curve since I'm used to canons. Although I might look into nikon and see what cameras they have in the same price range.

If you want to look at Nikon then look at the Coolpix 8700, that was the camera I had before I got the 350D. I sold that one to Nemesis after only having it for a little over two months cause I could not get the shots I wanted. It is a great camera once you learn how to use it and have seen some amazing pics from it. There is an 8800 that has IS and I think a little more zoom but it is kind of pricey. One thing to think about as you get up in price is that you are getting close to some of the lower end DSLR's like the Nikon D50. While it might be a good idea to go with a DSLR you have to take into consideration the lenses that you will want to buy to get better shots where as a point and shoot can cover most of the bases without breaking the bank. I am finding that out now

Well I just bought a canon pro1 got a good deal on it. It's basically as close to a dlsr as you can get wthout being a dslr. It's got the "L-lens" like the eos's do and you can cbuy new lens if needed/wanted.

My car alarm has passive arming, and even though that feature isn't enabled, I don't like to leave the windows up when the keys are in the car (never know when it's going to lock me out with the car running). Didn't think about it though, I should have just rolled the window all the way down..oh well

Ok at first you're going to look at this an think "WTF he took a pic upside down... big deal! I urge you to look closer, because you're looking at the Eclipse reflected in the windshield of my Corolla as viewed from the roof of the AE86.

-More coming, as I clean them up in photoshop.

k, if you can't see this pic I want you to try something before you start bitching or talking shit.

    Turn up your displays brightness.

I'm on a newer Apple... and apparently they have abnormally bright displays. I've come to this conclusion, because other IA users can never see the same things I can when I post pics.

The first one is a cool concept but lacks the def. in the pick to be able to tell what it is that you are looking into. Still cool idea tho.

Second one is also a cool idea as I "think" you were going for the black shadow feel of the car. The thing is that the longer shutter speed causes the light to blow out the back of the car. The window being half way down distracts from the pics as your eyes are drawn to the shadow differences. Also not very fond of a sign "growing" out of the top of the car. There is a few more but those are the main things I see.

    Other than that, good job.

Oh and I know it seems like I am a little harsh but this is the way I get treated on my photography boards when I ask for feedback. It helps tho, trust me.

I had originally planned on taking the second picture twice using differing shutter speeds, so I could merge the two. I was going to use the detail of the darkened Eclipse, with the darker background taken with a slower shutter speed, but at some point I simply forgot to do it.

I usually view your comments as "slightly over critical advice", and try to listen to what you say without getting bothered that you usually reply with something negative, so no harm done.

Criticism is never a bad thing if it's done in the right way. You're usually pretty good at keeping it constructive.

Give me a few months to get used to the camera, and then you can be as wildly critical as you want, because there should be no reason for flaws in the pictures. Until then just try keep in mind that the shoots I've posted thus far (with the SLR) were all pretty spontaneous in nature, done having no location pre-planned, and taken with a camera that I've had for a little over a week now.

Like I said man that is the way I get treated with mine when I post on photography sites (and what I post here is nothing compared to what I get on there) and I have only had my SLR for about a month longer than you so I am in the same boat. Ask Jaime about my getting him with his pics, it is not meant to put you down in anyway but only to help you take even better pics.
