I've taken my drivers ed course more reasent than anyone here. Didn't teach me a thing, I honestly corrected my coach everyday. Drivers ed would not of stopped this from happening or had any side effect.lol
At 50 mph you are covering 73 feet per second. If someone slams there brakes, and you are 3 car lengths back you don't have time to think about anything. Who cares about his past, he was driving to get parts. I drive fast sometimes, key word sometimes. If you say you don't, you're crazy. Back off on the guy, if he's not really concerned. I usually do stay pretty far away. Daily driving all the shitty cars I have in the past, it's become a habit to stay back. If I'm not staying decently far back, then I'm in something I trust and stay very aware.

On the flip side, I just rear ended someone for the first time in my life last weekend. Going around 5mph. LOL.

3 car lengths is more than enough if you use the 'cardinal rule' of using '1-1000' up to 3...that's more than enough.
