Default Something a bit different * my new ride *

    2006 Saab 9-3x Aero Sportcombi

Im a huge fan of sport wagons, they are not for every one. I could not pass up on the price, I got it nearly 3k under wholesale price. Runs, and rides awesome.

Plans, lower it slightly, and wheels. Not much els you can do really. Its an auto, but I drive 100 miles a day, most of it in traffic, so yeah. Its quick, handles like its on rails, and the seats are amazing.

Firby makes a true statement, believe me I'm a GM/SAAB tech. They were great cars before GM got the hands on them, since then GM has run the name and the quality of the car into the ground and couldnt give the car away. When I left the dealership I was at they still had a few 07 & 08 93's on the lot and I left in June of 2010, hence why GM sold the brand in 2008-2009 they have a lot of electrical issues with different modules in the vehicle and they are expensive parts to replace and ive seen a good amount of cars where the module shorts out and gets so hot it melts the connectors that are plugged into it. Most modules required programming and require the VIN to be learned to the module, so if u get some junk yard parts, still gonna have to pay the dealer a minimum of $100 to program and that's if the junkyard module is any good.

Also so these things have some serious oil leaks from the turbo and timing cover, and the only way ur going to reseal the timing cover is to pull the engine out. It's not a bad job if u have a lift to drop the engine out the bottom, if not good luck getting it out the top. Hate to be a bubble buster but I figured I just let u know wat u to into.

On a good note the car looks to be taken care of, I would of been kind of weary since u picked the car up for 3k less then whole sale. But I dont know the details of the purchase so I can't really say, good luck and hope ur one of the few that has limited issues.

I do have all service records, and all scheduled maintenance has been preformed on it to date. I appreciate the words of wisdom though.

Ha ha, yeah it does kinda suck, but they were only speaking the truth about what they have gone through with them. I feel pretty confident about the car though maybe I found one of the diamonds in the rough.

For sure, to be honest, I wouldn't worry about it. People said that about Volvos under ford ownership but we had an S40 with zero issues ever.

Also here's the thing about talking to a technician; their sample size and view of cars are based solely on those that come in for service/repairs. So who knows, their could be 1 problem car for every 5/10 that are flawless its really hard to tell.

Possibly, I've seen some come in with never having any major issues. Could be your one of them

This is a very valid point, but the things I listed are known problems that WILL happen. Oil leaks will come with age (like they do with any car) its just these are more costly and difficult then others. And the electrical issues may have come with the previous owner hopefully, but it's a strong possibility they will happen to. Again I'm sure there's lots of people out there with problem free SAAB's he may be one of them.

Oh, my post wasn't at all aimed at you, it was just saying thats the nature of sample size vs. total population.

Saab is a brand that makes me want to vomit anytime i look at their cars.................

but with that said...... i felt the same way about Hyundai/Kia a few years ago and now i'd drive almost everything they make.

SAABs were the shit in the mid 80's & all through the 90's and the quality of the cars were much much better. But when GM bought them out, GM tried to over engineer them like most European cars but ended up turning them into an over engineered POS. I like the body styling of the newer SAABs but the car is just too costly and where too expensive when they were new for wat u were getting. I actually bought a 2006 9-5 Aero with 112k and had it for 2yrs and I really loved the features and comfort it offered, I bout the car for 1,500 with a bad engine and turbo. I Spent 2,000 on the turbo and engine with 23,000 miles and drove the car as it was. I sold the car last yr for 6k and I do miss the features but I only bought the car to flip it and already had 3 other cars so it had to go.
