    Default V8 Exomotive Exocet

    current:

    car_0041 by Flsimages, on Flickr

all the basics are done. 12 days total
it will go to exomotive US to work on some small things like possible body parts since they need to be modified for this application etc etc. But mechanically, and assembly wise, it is done. Spins tires through 4th if i so desire.

It's a Miata, so of course it is street legal.

Why build a light ass "car" and use a heavy 302 and Diamond rims?

Well, the GVR4 sits in the backyard
I mean, it's cool regardless. Just seems pointless to aim for lightweight and speed, and use a heavy, outdated motor and some of the heaviest wheels made in 4x100.

rather i use an LSx that everyone who drifts with it cracks blocks?
i have 6 friends that are having to spend 4k for a new block.

ive overheated this thing like 6 times and have ZERO problems. Sure is it outdated? of course. but its way more reliable, and cheaper, and easier to find parts for than an LS. i built the engine, and got a trans for 1/4 what an LS costs.

and they arent that heavy. they arent light, but they arent heavy. under 15 a wheel when i weighed them.
but with 300ftlb of tq, a little heavy doesnt really matter.

its not always about having everything light on a vehicle. you have to haave a balance an this is what he has here. im not a fan of fords an their parts but this is a good combo. too bad you dont have a passenger seat because i would love to ride in it! what tranny did you put in? i may have missed that part. would be sick if you put the close ratio tko trans in. would be tearing the track up.

Ariel stuck a heavy V8 in their tube chassis car and managed to turn out one of the quickest laps around the Top gear test track. Seemed to work out ok for them.

If you're speaking of the V8 Atom yes, that's a small V8, smaller than 3L I believe. There is a company that makes V8s using two Hyabusa engines, I think it's a 2.4 V8 with a high redline, think mini F1 engine. Very cool.

its light in the tail at higher speeds with no aero.
Once a wing is mounted, i have no doubt in my mind that it will be much more stable. other than that, ive been in 500+HP gtrs, 500+ vettes, and a handful of farraris.

The only thing i can say, is its a totally different beast from all of them. It takes so much concentration to actually DRIVE it. not just cruise. but if you can get hte hang of it, its fast. real fast.

    Got work done!

Trans got out, flywheel and clutch off, found wasnt a rear main seal but the back of the oil pan. fixed it, put it all back together done.

rear subframe dropped down, diff mounted, and now the front mount is welded up. I have to do a few small things, pick up the new axles at 3 pm, and putt he axles in, then put the whole assembly back up.

after that, all that is left is to put the fuel cell in. should be done on time tomorrow!
