    Default Found Something Pretty Cool

My aunt and uncle own a farm over here because they live in Kansas and I guess that's what people do.

They own a massive area of land, and I was taking a ride through the foresty area in one of those multi-passenger ATVs, and I noticed the sun shining off some metal. I took a hike back there and came upon this.

The car in its original glory.

I already know it's a Mercury Eight from the late 40s/early 50s. I found a plate on the firewall with some numbering on it, though from what I've read VINs weren't in use until 1954 which was after they stopped producing this car. I don't really know what other information I'll find on this car besides what it originally looked like but I'm really intrigued by it. Here's the plate...probably just a serial number for the body.

Apparently there used to be a road close to where I found the car, but it was a little far from where that road was. There's a big dent in the roof and some dents in the driver's side doors so it might have rolled. Whatever the case, I thought it was really cool. The car is completely gutted...all the upholstery has rotted away, the engine, axles and glass are all gone, and it's covered in rust but the chrome is nearly perfect. Anyone know a way of decoding these numbers? Better yet, anyone else come across stuff like this?

On a friend of mines property we stumbled across the same thing. We found two old cars rotted away where there used to be a road many years back.

They'd have rotted away. The seats didn't have any upholstery or foam...hell even the steering wheel had nothing on it.

It might've caught fire at one point. The glass on one side looked like it had melted, but then I don't know if an engine fire would get hot enough to melt glass.

Haha I just now thought of this...it might've just broken down all those years ago and a tornado might've carried it from the road. It's very cool, but damn if I were to even attempt to restore it, it'd be one hell of a project. It has no floor because it's rusted to hell. I'm really surprised at how good the chrome trim and the bumpers are though.

Then again, I've always liked a rat rod.

Got a couple more shots by the way.

Awesome find. I was riding my dirt bike way off in the woods in the middle of nowhere when this caught my eye. By in the middle of nowhere I mean at least 10 miles from any form of a road.

the truch cab is probably stolen...just sayin.

as for the found car , looks like its in a rivine , is this NE kansas? honestly though dude , you can make some very nice coin off of the chrome pieces if you can get them off without further damage , ebay search this car and see what pops up , and look at the pricing.

Im gonna say that thing is done lol. its definitely cool though. I came across a old car graveyard out by calaway gardens. It was literally like a forest with cars everywhere. no trees cut down or anything but I saw a bunch of rusted out novas, gto's and mustangs. heres one of the pics from that adventure
